    The Principles of Sound Design

I just want to post my thanks and appreciation for creating this thread, APE. As an aspiring sound recordist and hopeful one-day sound designer, it's probably the most useful thread I've ever read on this forum. Absolutely mind-blowing sound design example, it really brings the craft to life for...

    Lots of Audio Questions

Reaper will do the job. It's not free but it seems you can perpetually "recycle" the free trial. http://www.reaper.fm/ Someone worked on a plug-in to allow you to import OMFs into Reaper, but he gave up as it was too much work. The beta version of the plug-in appears to work, but there are...

    The Sound of "Flight"

That was awesome, thanks for posting, Alcove. I love hearing about how Randy Thom et al approach sound design, constructing a sound from a plethora of disparate elements (they must listen to absolutely everything! And be constantly thinking things like, "Whoa if you slowed it down a bit, that...

It would be Film Festivals for me. Although all my content is currently stagnating on YouTube, I'd much rather make films for the "quality" audience, rather than just the internet crowd ;) No offence, internet crowd. You know I love you really!

    LONDON Filmmakers

Hi all, I've gotta agree with Joshua, this is an awesome thread! My name is Simon and until recently I made short films with a group of friends in Southampton. I have since moved to London and am looking for new collaborators and film-making experience. I am helping gorillaonabike with some of...

watch A Surreal Movie project i made for school

It was okay, I can see what you were going for. Parts were enjoyable and thought provoking. Some nice Bunuel / Dali moments. Good. Better lighting would have helped, it all appeared a bit flat. I'd also say the sound could have been improved, I'm guessing you recorded it all on camera. You need...

Avantone CK1 / Zoom H4n and the phantom hum

Aye, I know. I can't remember what it was that convinced me to go with the Zoom. The Tascam is better in so many practical ways, every review and shoot-out I have read comes to that conclusion. I think it was the price and something do to with the charger. I wish I'd waited an extra month. Oh well.

That's cool, thanks Alcove! Next purchase: thousands and thousands of rechargeable batteries!

    Rode NTG-2 with Zoom H1 or H4N?

I'm sure more knowledgeable people than myself will comment here, but I'd just like to add that I use the H4N / NTG-2 combination you mention and it is not a good pairing. The H4N needs a higher signal level (because it is supposed to be used for things like musical instruments that generate a...

Avantone CK1 / Zoom H4n and the phantom hum

Hi all I just received my wonderful new Avantone CK1 in the mail and I have hooked it up to my H4n for the first time. The mic draws 48V phantom power, so I've set up the H4n to allow this. Now, when I record drawing power from H4n's 2 AA batteries, there are no issues. Sounds okay, or as good...

    watch PARAMNESIA FILM

Ha looks fun! I am compelled and intrigued. I really like the mad déjà vu effect you achieved with the titles; it's like you can read the words almost subliminally as they flicker, and then what you thought they might have said is confirmed when they're presented to you in full... if that...

watch The War of the Children

Wow, that was actually pretty good! The acting was convincing, the characters were believable and their personalities combined to form a solid comedy dynamic. The dialogue was funny, the story compelling and it was cut together really well too. My only criticism, which is quite minor really, is...

watch Hunted - 4 min action short

That's a damn good question! Sadly the answer is a rather lame, "Because I didn't think of it." Such a great idea though, it would have looked fantastic! I guess spotting opportunities for interesting shots is something that comes with experience :) Thanks for watching and offering a nice...

watch Hunted - 4 min action short

Haha thanks for trying, I do take your point. I think the editor had trouble exporting from Premiere in HD, I'll ask him whether he'll be able to sort it out and re-upload. If he does that, perhaps he can also sort out the small audio sync delay that's been bugging me as well :D

watch Hunted - 4 min action short

Hi everyone It's been a while since I have posted, but I have been reading posts, in the shadows like some sort of Basic - Premiere Expired social parasite. I do hope to be more active in the future. Our little film-making guild has put together a short action film called Hunted. Please have a...
