I just purchased....

So I just made my first ever camera purchase.

I decided to go with the Canon 500d t2i. I was going to save for a 7D but after seeing some footage that this little beast puts out.... Pfffft. I knew this is a camera that could do what I needed it to do. The price wasn't bad either. It's 899 @ best buy. Reason why I purchased there is because you can find a bunch of coupon online. If you search "coupon code best buy" searches will pop up. There's a 12% off coupon code that you can print out and take into the store. It's only good until the 11th of July. That lowered the price by about 100ish dollars. So for 799 it's a steal. Seriously. Especially because it comes with a 18-55mm lense.

Anyways I thought I would share my recent purchase. And also thought I would pass on the coupon code information to anyone who is on the cliff about buying one.

Now I just need to figure out how to use this thing. HA.

Has anyone found a workaround for the video limit on the T2i?

When filming continuously there is a 12 minute limit (or so) before it has to stop recording and start again. Also i have found that sometimes during shooting it will randomly stop before the 12 minutes with a error.

Anyone found a practical workaround? The video limit will be a pain in the ass when doing freelance weddings etc.

I am aware of the need for a class 6+ SD card and took it into consideration when buying my SD.

That's just the limit of the FAT32 file system - the maximum file size is 4GB. Shots with more complex motion lead to an increase in file size, which may be why you're being cut short sometimes.

So I had my camera for a few months now. I've been learning this thing more and more. Still enjoying the amazing quality this little guy pushes out for the price I paid. Figured I would post some stills from video footage I shot today.

* footage is under exposed but was experimenting with some natural lighting situations for an upcoming shoot.

Those are some incredible photos and I saw your test footage (incredible).
I found that owning a DSLR (7D) makes me take a lot of photographs, haha. It's so tempting!

Alright folks, thought I'd post some video footage finally. Prior to this I was editing on a dinky 400 dollar Dell laptop. I couldn't even watch the footage without it lagging or skipping. It was pretty discouraging to even go out and shoot anything.

Well, now I purchased a new 27" imac upgraded to 8GB Ram and an quad core i7 processor. I also purchased the CS5 production premium suite. I must say, being able to edit an entire timeline in full HD without even having to think about rendering is pretty sweet!

So yeah, I took a stroll with my girlfriend around New York City yesterday and took some video. Enjoy!

You can find stock footage of film burn or like leakage online. Place the stock footage on top of your footage in the video timeline. Then just go to the effect tab (in premiere) and screen the layer so that it appears over your video footage.

Hope that helps, thanks for watching!

I just found this thread. I'm considering getting a t2i myself.

Your stills have a great look to them, and make a pretty inspiring advert for the T2i. In theory, the video should be the same quality, but once it goes through conversion to mp4, then youtube... most people are going to see it two levels down.

Still, pretty cool... Germanity has a good look to it too...

Thanks PositiveFuture. Glad you enjoy the stills. A lot of what you see is camera testing. Before purchasing the T2i I never really operated a camera. This is me getting my feet wet and figuring the camera's ins and outs.

It snowed here in NYC overnight. Thought I would put together a quick video.

This is going to be the last experimental film that I shoot and post like this. These videos were simply an exercise to get familiar with the t2i. Before this I never really picked up a camera nor did I do any physical shooting. So the technical aspect of handling a camera and lenses is pretty new to me. I feel confident to move to the next phase though.

Thanks for watching!
