movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Finally saw HP8 this weekend. As I expected, I loved it. Alan Rickman is amazing. That's been said a million times before, and shall be again, but it is no less true. In particular, as a fan of dragons in cinema, the shot just before they fly over London is stunning. As a viewer, I could only have had more fun if they had more Luna. We'll call it a 9/10 for personal enjoyment.

Now, on an objective level, there's some clumsy transitions, some things that only make sense if you've read the books and some really bad logic. As a film I wouldn't call it a great one, but definitely a good one. Maybe 6.5-7 out of 10.

And count me in for Amelie love too! One of my favorite movies; has been from the moment I saw it. Everything about it is wonderful, but particular attention should be drawn to Yann Tiersen's beautiful score.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2- 9.5/10

Rear Window -10/10

The original Amblin short by Spielberg- 8/10

ALMOST FAMOUS

I love this film. Billy Crudup is one of the best yet underrated actors around, Patrick Fugit is a hundred times better than Michael Cera IMHO when it comes to playing that "type" of character. And as for Kate Hudson. I don't know why she wastes her time in these forgettable movies when she should be doing much higher profile work. She was nominated for an Oscar and won the Golden Globe for best supporting actress in this film.

Original music by Peter Frampton and Ann Wilson (of Heart) and soundtrack of really great 70's rock and roll.

Of Gods and Men 8/10

A true story following the kidnapping and murder of 7 trappist monks during the 1996 Algerian Civil War. Film won the Grand Prix award at Cannes. It is beautifully shot and beautifully acted. The two leads, Michael Lonsdale and Lambert Wilson, are incredible in their roles. It is hard not to fall in love with the both of them. And moreover, the film shines a beautiful light on Islam and Christianity coexisting in harmony. Great film - one of the best I have seen in 2011!

Heh, I worked on this film a few years back and never saw it 'til last night. Scott Spears (forum member) shot the opening, btw.

It's worth watching if you like cheesey USA Up All Night style of films, I 'spose. It's a fairly campy vampire film overall, and it sure can't justify the budget. However, it's much better than a lot of similar lo-budget productions with aspirations.

Been meaning to watch this for awhile as my brother picked up a cheap DVD copy, and that glowing review means it might come sooner rather than later!

As for me, haven't had time to watch a film lately  hopefully this weekend I'll change that!

Same here. I love TCM :)

Ideed. I just got TCM recently and yes that is where I watched that movie. There are so many great movies on there plus it is commercial free.

Road to Perdition. Tom Hanks is just amazing and the story was great. Glad to see a recent Paul Newman film.

8/10

Memorable cinematography too. I think this movie was based on a graphic novel.

To Kill a Mockingbird
9/10

A movie that is scary, funny, strong and real.

Okay, I'm one of the fifteen people who really loved Sucker Punch. I wasn't expecting much (porn-grade excuse plot leading into stylized action, which it pretty much what I got), and there was lots I didn't like about it (over-use of cover songs. It's like the movie saying "hey, here's this better music that you COULD be listening to now...", though having Browning sing a lot of it actually does further the point of the movie). I read a lot of comics, so I get Snyder's slow-mo/stop action style; sometimes you just absorb an image, lingering over the artwork before moving the story on. I get why people don't like it.

The ending was a lot more bittersweet/pyrrhic victory than I was expecting, though it shouldn't have been given Snyder's previous films/influences (specifically 300 and Watchmen). The opening shot like a narrative music video was more than a little on the cheesy side, but I did dig it and it really set the tone for what followed.

Good movie? Not really. Did I love it? Absolutely. A quick google image search didn't turn up the shot that I wanted, but the really wide profile shot of the snowy courtyard as the main character squares off against the last samurai was absolutely stunning.

Totally understand why so many people hated this one though!

Beastly (8/10), which If you haven't seen is a modern day retelling of Beauty and The Beast. I thought they did an excellent job adapting the film from the Alex Flinn book (which I also enjoyed). Alex Pettyfer and Vanessa Hudgens have great chemistry on screen together. And the supporting roles are spectacular - Neil Patrick Harris (so funny in this role) and Mary-Kate Olsen are my two favs. Overall a very cool retelling of the original. Very entertaining film. Highly recommend!

"Horrible Bosses" (7/10)
It was hysterical! The base story line was a bit weak, but the comedy was executed perfectly. This movie hit all of the baser desires. If you are looking for a funny movie that doesn't make you think, I recommend it.
