I just sat down to finaly watch "the town" i thought it was pretty good. Id give it a 8/10.
Boyz N The Hood 10/10
An iconic film of the 90s and a personal favorite of mine. They just released it on Blu-ray. Special features on the disc are great. Highly recommended John Singleton commentary when watching.

I know that people over in the US got it years ago but over here in the UK Super 8 just turned up.
I just reviewed it for Cine-Vue as well as reviewing it a month or so ago for The Clapper Bored.

Burke and Hare 9/10
Big fan of Simon Pegg, so I was pretty amped to see this one. I heard about it back in 2010 when it received a UK theatrical release. From what I understand, it's getting a US theatrical release in the near future. Currently it's getting a pre-theatrical release on SundanceNOW - a newer thing they seem to be doing quite a bit now. You can stream it there. Otherwise, maybe wait till it hits theaters.
The story is hilarious - a black comedy based loosely on the real Burke & Hare murders in Scotland in 1820s. I thought Pegg was perfect for his role, as was Andy Serkis. Also has an all-star cast supporting cast in Isla Fisher, Tim Curry and Tom Wilkinson.

Saw Potiche last night. Meh, it was ok but gosh my parents went on about it...
MY Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done? - 6.75/10 - Could easily tell that it had a Lynch influence on it. The dialogue seemed very choppy and somewhat forced, even by some great actors (Sevigny, Dafoe) so unsure if it was the scriptwriting or not. Had some shots that I liked a lot. Interesting story over all.
The Referees- Excellent documentary.
Sarah's Key- Not as bad as I thought, pretty good.
Weekender- Only saw half before a power cut.

Finally saw Super 8. Meh.
I had been really looking forward to it. It started out with such potential, and then it seemed so poorly written and forced that by the time the climax came I felt like there was still 20 minutes left of exposition left in the movie. But instead it just ended. Story over.

Just thought, I saw “The Silent House” last week. We’ve discussed it here before; it’s allegedly (at least it’s marketed as being) shot entirely in one take. Though I doubted it all along, I can confirm that that is a lie. It’s shot in several long takes, with most of the cuts masked by panning into the darkness. On the most part, it’s done well; when the camera pans back, it’s not massively noticeable that there has been a cut. In one instance though, there is a cut through white, within a camera flash… That one stands out like a sore thumb.
On the whole though, for a micro-budget horror, it’s pretty well done.

I saw The Devil's Double last night. Worth a watch for sure.

The Devil's Rejects - Not my cup of tea, but interesting camera work decisions. Obviously a cult following thing, so no reasonable grade available. 4/10 for normal people, likely 8+/10 for fans of gore porn.
Star Trek (2009) - 9/10. Pretty good action film with nice character development before they became icons.
Exit Through the Gift Shop - 7/10 for a documentary. It's interesting watching a freak turn into a superfreak with the help of those he once tailed around.
Cloverfield - 5/10. I'm studying documentary style works for pacing, technique and filler. This is okay. Up next is Quarantine.
The Burrowers - 6/10. Interesting camera work. Plot's full of logic gaps. For the money spent I liked The Descent MUCCCH better, 8.5/10.
Re Burke and Hare. I love Pegg in Shaun of the Dead & Hot Fuzz, not so much in Run, Fat Boy. Run.
And if you want to see an absolute waste of Serkis' talent watch The Cottage. OMG, it sucks turds from a dead dog's arse.

Finally watched Ichi the Killer last night. Remarkably well done, disturbing gore and violence that had even me wincing, interesting over the top characters (really shows its' manga roots there)...but at the end of the day, as much as I love splatter, I'm just not that into yakuza stories. I liked the "what just happened" ending, but for the most part I found myself kinda bored, waiting for the next over-the-top disturbing scene. Again, great movie, probably 8.5/10 in terms of quality, but I wasn't that crazy about it.
Jacobs Ladder, again, so after i've seen it 3 times i rate it 7/10.
Sometimes it feels like pure art, but some scenes feel just like they're ripped out of another film and thrown in this one. Other than that - rock solid, tripping, moving and even though we could guess what's going to be the catch i just couldn't stand the end, it was so depressing like most of the film is, just worse - like Lyne used some sort of catalyst to make my brain implode and make me feel miserable.
I like films that play around with emotions, common sense etc.
Screenplay on it's own seems a bit predictable but directing was brilliant and gave it a dimension it needed.
