movies What is your favorite obscure movie that most people don’t know about?

I'm fascinated by what folks (Nate 😁) here think of as "obscure" and think
"most people" don't know about.

Dances With Wolves?

I guess older movies like the Wilder films mentioned are movies most
people today don't know about. Fair in general but sad for a film forum
populated by people who love movies.

Want an obscure Wilder film most people don't know about? How many
of you here know "One, Two, Three"?

I don't find it sad at all. I think people will answer based on the calculations between obscure and favorite and that's cool for anyone reading, especially when something is new to them.

I'm sad that people don't know famous, successful awarding winning
older films. Not that people find that area within obscure and favorite.
That I find fascinating.

The idea that most people don't know about "Dances With Wolves" is
fascinating to me. The thought that most people don't know about "The
Apartment" is sad to me because it's likely true.

For some reason I don't find that sad. Some kids have never heard of Nirvana. I don't know, it's not sad to me, it's simply generational. We can teach them and lists help. Nirvana is not even close to obscure, but there's a bunch of kids who have never heard of them, imagine all the "famous" and obscure bands they have never heard of, and you will really be sad! πŸ˜‚

This 100%.
Heck, how many teenagers haven't heard of Bobby Darin? Bing Crosby? Or Bach, for that matter?

I think it's absolutely normal that things fall away from the next generation's attention and I'm happy to share a few that struck me.
And if they don't care? No worries. They love things that I don't care about, and I don't expect them to be bothered by my lack of interest.

I was hesitant to list some of those for exactly the reason you're mentioning.

My rationale was basically that a lot of younger people have never even heard of stuff like "Dances with Wolves", even though that was as mainstream as it gets once upon a time. "Tetsuo the Iron Man" or "Aguire the Wrath of God" would probably be more along the lines of what this post was looking for than "Tron", but I did throw in a decent number of those genuinely obscure films along with major films I thought everyone young had forgotten.

I almost mentioned this second movie, probably should have.
It's a really funny action comedy with Michelle Yeoh and Donnie Yen, two superstars early on in their career

A 1992 French dark comedy called "MAN BITES DOG". IMDB says: A film crew follows a ruthless thief and heartless killer as he goes about his daily routine. But complications set in when the film crew lose their objectivity and begin lending a hand. I have a VHS of it, but just found an HD copy on youtube. (click here)

Saw that a few times when it came out. I cracked up when they killed a movie crew because they were using video! The movie crosses a few lines. Amazing performance by the guy playing the killer. Charismatic, funny, and ruthless.
