Hi All,

I would like to mention that the new trailer for our sci-fi independent feature "NYDENION" is now online:

With way over 1900 shots and way over 500 pure VFX shots this is a hefty and heavy Fusion pipeline job orgy. Simply every single shot went through Fusion and Generation. We still have some way to go, but we already see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Be informed:

This movie was started nearly 15 years ago as an indy film project. Jack
Moik had the idea when he was working as model maker for some movies in the late 90's (real models) and thought of this movie to be made. Over years many were involved in model shop and live action shooting (most of the stuff about 10-5 years ago using a Sony VX9000 with interlaced letterboxed PAL).

All actors (except one) are normal people - not professional actors. Many of the team have their cameos (including me, ehm...). No one in that early phase was really a professional film maker in any way. As it turned out it won't be possible to do the required compositing post production and VFX "via Internet", where Jack tried to put together a team. As Jack joined us at Magna Mana he had the project with him and it was in more or less calm stage, frozen in some kind of inability to finish it as expected.

We encouraged each other to try to finish it, so the editing and shooting was mainly finished, additional digital sets and models were began etc. Lucky as we were we got some funding from "Hessen Invest Film" (somewhat less than 200,000 Euros), a local funding bank fond, where the jury members got so excited about that "long term indy production story" that we are now able to finish that indy sci-fi opera in roughly 6 months with local talents and our own staff. As it turned out a small, but very powerful, productive and dynamic team...

So please have these facts in mind when watching the trailer and don't just compare it to the last multi-million dollar features. Watch it and think of your own what you consider the value of this. And have a calm minute for those who had to roto hours of greenscreen DV footage... :)

The trailer is in german, but you can have english subtitles on in youtube.
There is also an HD version online. We will have a native english version very soon.

Honestly we need every support for this soon-to-be-released feature.

Lonely Seal Releasing will be the world wide distributor!

So if you like it, please forward it to others and spread the word - this is
the best help you can give to us. The more see it and like it, the better
success the movie will have.

Please subscribe to our mailing list, or follow us on Twitter, Facebook etc.

Look at the website for some more details, and especially the funny behind the scenes diaries.

Any feedback is highly welcome :)

We think this is probably one of the cheapest and possibly at the same time most complex indie features ever made.

Best wishes,

Axel

Dang, those are the best SFX i've seen in an Indy film. Difficult to judge quality of acting with my limited German, but it looked like it all fitted together pretty decent.

Nice job.

I couldn't quite grasp the gist of a story, and from watching without sound, the dialogue seemed slightly mudane. As if i knew, already, what was going to be said. Straight out of the dialogue handbook.

Again, i should note i watched this without sound.

Do you think Lucas will have problems with you using an AT-ST??

I wondering the same things. Some of this looks a little too close to Starwars to me. I wonder if Lucus will sue. If I was to change something I would have made it more unique and less looking like starwars. Some of the ships the AT-ST and the holagrams all look similar to starwars to me. The AT-ST is praticular looks real similar. Then again how close can you be and not be in violation. I don't know.

Starwars AT-ST

Then again in other movies I have seen things similar to the AT-ST like in Avatar, aliens 2, and matrix 2. The Mechwarrior 4 video game looks real close too.

Here is the Avatar Amp Suit that is similar to AT-ST

Here is Ripley fighting in a suit similar to the Amp Suit

Can you sue for the look of a futuristic device? I mean, sure, if it's EXACTLY the same, but can you really sue if it's just similar?

Not arguing -- honest question.

Thanks guys for the feedback.

I've added a direct link to the teaser as well in the first message, as well here:

It might help a little to grasp the storyline. A bit more emotional and to my taste - but I am not alone...

We will have an english version soon.

Clearly this will become available on BluRay and DVD at some point. Maybe we can even have it in the theaters - at least worth a try. Depends on the distributors and buyers.

World distribution will be done by Lonely Seal Releasing.

The more of you mention you like it, the more hits we get on youtube, well, the more likely you can see that early at a theater near you :)

So thats what we as an indie film team need from you as help.

Regarding the BatteMech - it was designed many many years ago. And its different enough. Who knows, maybe we need to sue others for infringing original designs from us... :) Who knows?

Surely this movie takes influences from sources like Battlestar Galactica, Star Wars, Star Trek and others - but against many many other indie sci-fi movies this is a brand new "world" and overall design. The main point was not to make the 367th illegal episode of StarWars to be infringed by somebody to not to show it off anywhere. That was exactly the fault many if not most others did. Be sure, Nydenion is totally different in that context. Btw, we have no aliens at all... just in case you expect them. But humans are not alone...

Anyway, thanks for you thumbs up. We will surely release a little more when we get to it. Right now the deadline is so tight, its just me who finds time to write (because I control the tech department and thats working for now...).

So please, if you like it:

- spread the word
- visit the website www.nydenion.com
- subscribe to the newsletter
- follow us on social networks like twitter, facebook etc. and spread the news

That would help us so much!

Many thanks!

Axel

The best microphones,

The best recorders,

The best tanks,

and now the best Indie films.

Man. That looks and sounds great.

It's like Stah Vars.

This looks brilliant! Don't worry about the chicken walker, no ground to stand on for Lucas. The choke shot is a little star wars too ;)
