Hello from Quebec

Hello ! I'm Catherine from Quebec, Canada. I don't have any talent in arts but i loooove it ! I adore music and movies and I'd like to have suggestions of movies i should watch. I named a lot of movies i loved in my descriptions but i'll name a couple of them here! Cashback, Control, 500 days of summer, big fish.
As directors, i love Danny Boyle, Martin Scorsese, Christopher Nolan, Quentin Tarantino, Tim Burton and so many more.

By the way, I speak english and french so feel free to write me in either languages !
See ya !
Cath

Hello!

Have you watched everything by Scorcese, Burton, Boyle and Tarantino yet?
If not, id do that.
Based on those 4 directors, u might like Brian DePalma, Guy Ritchie and McG.
(ok, McG was a joke!)

And if u want to know which movies to watch in general, id say the imdb top 250 is a basic list to start although the results are kind of skewed for the movies made post 1999 in there.
try the AFI 100 list.
with these lists, ull get a general scope of movies and then can pick out the styles or directors ur more interested in and watch other movies made by them.

Movie Suggestions for Catherine

That's such a wide-open query, but I always like to suggest the following- Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs", gritty, bloody, violent, but unbelievably great dialogue that made Quentin a star; "The Commitments", a Danny Boyle (I think) movie about an Irish band trying to revive Soul music. It's an acquired taste, but the music is phenomenal; "Love Actually"- a Hugh Grant and many others movie. I'm not a rom/com guy, but this is the best of the best. Target this one for the holiday (Xmas) season!

I bet you do, if you considered the enormous scope of what filmmaking entails. :)

'sup!

Ditto.

Set design, costuming, location scout, makeup, there's so many things, I'm sure you're talented at one of them. Heck, for all we know, you could be the World's Greatest Boom-op in the waiting.

I'm gonna toss out a few documentaries that you maybe haven't seen.

"Why We Fight" would otherwise be your classically-boring "talking-heads" style of documentary, but the subject matter is so meticulously documented, that I find it to be a fascinating revelation.

"Waltz with Bashir" is a visual masterpiece, stunningly beautiful, and full of emotion.

My absolute favorite -- "Born into Brothels". Don't be fooled by the subject-matter -- you might expect it to be depressing. On the contrary, though there are a few sad moments, overrall it's an absolutel joy -- an incredible story about hope and opportunity.

Haha thanks for the suggestions. I actually have reservoir dogs and love actually. I adored both movies they're simply incredible. In Reservoir dogs, the dialogue about tips was so funny ! And love actually is so cute but yet not cheasy. I'll watch Commitments when I can! ^^
