I'll add one more to Graeme's advice - Get those previous pic's working for you so that you can show a track record. There is a saying in the business world that money follows management - having a successful track record for showing a return on the product you already have would be very helpful...

Should I quit my day job in the hope of becoming a filmmaker?!

If you already know marketing and sales, this is probably the most important skill for getting a Return On Investment. New outlets for distributing your work seem to emerge every day. So assuming you do good work in your spare time and then apply your marketing skills to build a profitable...

A lot of first time filmmakers screw up the audio, only to find out the hard way - that in many instances, audio is more important to your audience than the visual. So make sure you take it seriously. To make it a bit easier for your boom operator, I suggest the use of apple boxes and step...

    New to forum!

I'd say once you have your subject, POV and interview schedule, leave some wiggle room for discovery. Obviously your budget may not sustain this for long. But in the doc I did, the subjects took us in some new, otherwise non-planned direction which made all the difference.

Day job gets in the way!

How is your project coming? Are you making any progress? Those pesky day jobs always seem to get in the way of an otherwise way-more-fun-than-work production.

    Obtaining financing

Back on Topic Now that you've learned a lesson, you need to get moving on your next project. Sounds like you have a good idea. I wasn't sure though - is this a narrative feature or a doc? If it's a narrative feature, do you have your initial board and breakdown?

    PM or PC???

On smaller shows this may be true. In agreement with directorik, working on multi-million dollar studio projects, coordinators typically work under the production manager. These folks run the office and make sure information is distributed as needed. That information can be scripts, sides...
