series What series are you watching?

This was fun to watch Tywin Lannister do his thing in a different series.

I remember not liking Merlin when it came out, i abandoned it at season 1, these later seasons are pretty decent though.

Finished Merlin - This show has a lot of Game of Thrones actors making apperances.

There's an episode with Samwell Tarly and Dickon Tarly standing right next to each other 😆
Davos Seaworth the onion knight has a character, there's even a fun episode with Sir Jeor Mormont.

Now I'm watching Banshee a cinemax series starring Anthony Starr (homelander)

Is Merlin like/better than Game of Thrones? Tried to get into GoT but it always felt too much like it relied upon gratuitous sensationalism in order to grab ratings. (The acting was often excellent and it looked impressive.)

They're filmed in similar locations, with similar costumes and set pieces, but Merlin is much lower budget, episodic instead of serialized, and with a very family friendly PG rating.

It reminds me a bit of "Lois and Clark" cause merlin is running around solving problems with his secret magic powers, keeping his magic hidden from Morgana le Fey and King Arthur

I watched Banshee on HBO, cinemax original that is finished and now available on HBO

I watched all 4 seasons of Banshee - They give homelander's character the nickname "Soldier Boy" kinda ironic
I liked all the seasons, season 1 was the best, and early on like s01e03 i think, it had a BADASS fight scene

Amazing scene.

The Worst Witch (Based on Book from 1974)

Starring Bella Ramsey

It's basically an all-girls harry potter with a bumbling comedy protagonist.
Not a show I would recommend for adults, but it's still decently watchable for grown ups.

The show went for 4 seasons 2016-2020 and died off with a lot of other covid netflix shows.
I'm on season 3 now, and apparently bella quit the show afterward and isn't in season 4 at all since she got such better job offers after game of thrones.

I was 100% expecting a stoner comedy with Kaitlin OIson in High Potential

It's not even a comedy!!
Similar to Limitless/Lucifer where a detective's whimsical civilian consultant uses their mojo to cut through all the red tape and solve crimes.

I liked Limitless and Lucifer, and I like Kaitlin Olson, so I'm on board.
The second episode airs tomorrow night. Pilot was good.

Episode 2 of High Potential was bad

If you're gonna have a smart sherlock style detective, your clues need to add up.

Minor spoiler for episode 2... the writers apparently disagree with me on this fundamental clue.

If someone pushes you off a building to your death, you won't die silently. You will yell or scream.

Well I am right here, damnit. And High Potential is stupid and wrong!

The Penguin on HBO is 3 episodes deep - really great!
I love the little waddle colin does when he walks, cracks me up everytime.

What a performance.
Cristin Miliot as Sofia Falcone is great too, she manages to appear vulnerable while also being strong and scary at the same time.

Impractical Jokers Spinoff in Australia
Season 1 is terrible, season 2 its pretty decent.

This punishment where the dude goes all in attempting the olympic dives was awesome.

And finally....

The Franchise

A new HBO Original show with Mara's friend Billy Magnussen
It wasn't a bad, but it's not great either. Comedy is more of a smirk than a big laugh kinda comedy.

So far I'd have to say Extras (2005) is funnier and more memorable, but it's just a pilot.
I'll give episode 2 a shot.

HBO Sunday night has delivered some of the best TV of my life.

The Franchise ep. 1 and 2 were a wash for me, but Ep. 3 and 4 Magnussen is stepping up and delivering the biggest laughs.
He's stealing the show as the deeply insecure and coddled movie star. Happy for him, and me too, since now I'm actually looking forward to ep. 5

Penguin is great, I recomended it - you don't need to watch The Batman - obviously Colin Farrell has chops if he can carry an entire feature film from inside of a phone booth, but damn he's captivating as Oz, it's one of my favorite performances of all time.

Agatha All Along

Costume/Art department is outstanding, and everything else is solid.
My biggest complaint - there isn't enough Aubrey Plaza or Debra Jo Rupp (kitty) in the show.

Agatha All Along 4/5
Very strong ending!! Last 3 episodes revealed the first 6, and cemented this series as a must-watch for any fans of Wanda Vision.

It's essentially Wanda Vision season 2, conceived as a spinoff.

The Diplomat 4/5
Reduced to 6 episodes, season 2 had a much faster, and more engaging pace compared to season 1.
I don't think I could write something like this. I thought I'd be better at writing by now, I need to try harder.

I'm through the first 2 episodes of season 2 of The Diplomat and it's still one of my favorite series.

The other one I really like is Shrinking , which I don't think gets a lot of attention because it's on Apple TV, which is still quite small.
Harrison Ford is amazingly funny in this. Jason Segel, Jessica Williams (best known perhaps for her work as a correspondent on The Daily Show), and Wendy Malick are also great - ok, they're all terrific :).

I like penguin really well, wasn't too crazy about "Agatha all along", Haven't seen "The Diplomat" yet but plan to.

I do really like "The Franchise". I wish I liked it a little bit more though. I really like the cast and the characters and the concept and the storyline, But the actual writing and execution feels mid. I enjoy the show, but it's definitely not grabbing me the way "Barry" did. I like the premise of this show a lot more than "Ballers" for example, but the final result seems about the same quality.

Franchise actually reminds me of "Avenue 5" in a way, Great premise with lots of money thrown at it culminating in something vaguely watchable With some fun performances that I am 100% certain I will forget permanently within a year.

I agree that HBO Sunday night has produced probably some of the best television of my entire life. Their formula generally works and when they do land a real hit, Sometimes it's unforgettable like The Sopranos or Oz, et cetera.

The Penguin 4/5
Star power goes a long way, the writing is great, but I wasn't a huge fan of the ending.
I enjoyed the ending to Agatha All Along more, even though it didn't have the starpower it did have a great costume department.

The Franchise 2/5
Unforunately only 2 of the episodes are worth watching - Ep. 3 and Ep. 4, and basically just Billy's scenes.
So basically I recommend watching a couple of clips and save yourself the time...

I expected a lot more from an HBO original series, but this feels like something that would be on Fox or ABC.
The writing wasn't great, none of the characters were lovable, and god the costumes were so bad.

Look how fucking stupid Billy's costume looks... I'm supposed to believe that they're making a large budget movie?

Hey HBO WARDROBE DEPARTMENT... 1993 called, they want their costume back
