What genre is this?

Hey all, hope you don't mind if I use all y'all as guinea pigs again...

I have a new screenplay that my manager will be unleashing on H'wood in the next few weeks, and we're trying to come up with a title for it. The working title has been The Catch, but my manager feels that title may suggest the wrong genre. It hadn't occurred to me, but maybe he's right.

So, what genre does it suggest to YOU? If you didn't know ANYTHING else about it, just the title The Catch, what pops into your mind? Not plot, just genre.

You might put your responses in

quotes, so others aren't influenced by your answer.

Thanks!

It could be a crime drama, a crime lighthearted caper, or a romantic comedy, or maybe even a screwball comedy. It's kind of any of those really, but those are the ones that popped in my head first.

Baseball or romantic. And when I think a bit more -most likely crime.

Can't be horror or thriller -too active for that.
Musical or western -no way.
Sci-fi, so far away...
Comedy, possible... and then it could be surprisingly funny.

Body switch movie? Torture Porn? COME ON MAN, IT CAN BE ANYTHING!!!!!I bet this movie has catch in it...I bet its a movie about a 40 jear old dwarf, that sees dead people and she derail a train, to find a superhero....

LOL a fishing series,) I think a romantic crime thriller! A policeman goes on a fishing trip with his policeman friends and falls for a women there who is the daughter of a mafia boss. He sleeps with her and uwww there's a 'catch' her father wants to hunt him down and kick his ass for what he done.

I don't think the title matters in terms of genre. Can't the font you use do that for you??

Since this thread appears to have run out of steam, I'll say thanks again to those of you who replied!

Some interesting feedback, for sure. I'll have to concede that my manager was largely correct, as usual. He predicted people would mistake it for a romantic comedy.

Some of you were pretty close: it's actually a thriller that takes place aboard a fishing vessel. Time for a new title, I guess.

if your script is bought or scooped up, chances are pretty good that the name will change several times before it hits the screen, if and when it does.

Catch Hell or Catching Hell could be alt titles to play around with.

Good luck!

If you would like some IT audience participation feedback on possible titles some more details about or a premise synopsis would go a long way.

But if you feel it's best to keep as much of your work "in house" as possible I understand.

Probably shouldn't say too much before the script actually goes out. My manager is very specific about when, how, and to whom he submits material, and I defer to his wisdom 100%.

But let me put it this way (a completely off-the-cuff logline): A young man joins the crew of a fishing boat, only to find out they're involved in a much more lucrative trade than fishing.

"Catch of the Day" is a great title, but definitely says comedy to me.

"Catch Hell" is also a cool title, but implies a supernatural element, I think.

"The Catch" seems like it would be an extremely horrible romantic comedy starring George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez.

Human trafficking or drugs? Or mafia body dumps?
