The Unofficial Song of the Day Thread

The BEE GEES! Great choice, Nick!

For mine today, think I'll post one by Alain Bashung, a French Canadian (has Quebec seceded from the rest of Canada yet? I haven't been keeping track...)

Osez, Josephine!

LOVE the horse!

ok, I love the girl, too

It's like as if a French-Canadian woman got with a Ringling Brother and they're children were Donny and Marie.

I liked the song, but the video made me dizzy :P

Exactly! The whole concept (not to mention the video itself) makes one's head spin!

In the spirit of strange juxtapositions of style and content, I'm going to post a second today:

Russian bluegrass!

(yup, you heard that right)

Horosho!

Here's something from Gustav Mahler. He was a very morbid, depressed person and waited many, many years before writing his 9th Symphony, as he believed that most great composers die immediately after composing their 9th. Some believe that his composing a 9th Symphony was akin to a suicide attempt. He did eventually begin writing but never completed a 10th Symphony.

BTW, the fourth movement, performed here, is a brilliant of example of evolutionary non-resolving composition.

Excellent choice, Alcove. I LOVE classical music and find myself most influenced by the Baroque composers. There's something eerie about the way Bach opens up my brain. I am most inspired and imaginative with the entire Brandenburg Concerto suite (which I own in 3 presentations).

But for the love I have for Bach, GFH's Overture to the Royal Fireworks Music is my all time favorite. I played it at the entrance to my wedding reception, played it many, many times for all three of my kids (in utero - my wife's probably sick of it but plays nice) and I want it played as I am being laid to rest.

It's my passion, my soul music and I am more than happy to share it with you. Enjoy!

Edit - I don't know how to do the embedding thing so I just offered a link. Sorry. Can someone give me pointers on how to embed and I'll fix my post. Thanks.

Kosh,

Click the YT button on the editing panel. Two brackets with "YT" in the first and "/YT" in the second set will appear. Between the brackets, place the last group of digits and numbers from the YouTube address after the equals sign: U-XQv2TnjpM

Et Voila!

Here's one from one of my favorite bands of the 90s, DAG. Too bad they didn't make it.
