Public Confession: I'm Scared

I had planned on releasing a youtube web-series a couple weeks ago. I was ready. I had all my ducks in a row, all of the logistics worked out, the script written. When I was making a big deal on this forum about "The Revolution", that was meant to be a build-up to the release of the web-series.

And then I got scared. Because once this thing begins, there's no backing out. I don't know what I'm doing. Do any of us, really? I guess I just need to put one foot in front of the other, right? I keep trying to tell myself that the journey of a million miles begins with one single step.

"What can happen? You are already naked."
"When you are in hell: keep moving."
"Fear leads to suffering."
"Do or do not. There is no try."
"Energy is eternal delight."

Having said all this: I'm going to take some action now as well. :P

Haha! Thanks, y'all! In retrospect, I'm glad I got cold feet. I've decided to re-brand. I'm not going with "the revolution" perspective anymore.

The idea was that, by teaching people who don't have money how to make films with no money, I'd be helping pitch in to the cultural revolution that has already begun. Nah, I don't need to put that in there. I don't have to talk about taking part in a cultural revolution in order to take part in a cultural revolution. In fact, talking about it kinda cheapens it.

Kismet! It was meant to be. I'm glad I got cold feet, so that I wouldn't launch a webpage and then immediately decide to change it.

Just do it man! It's normal to be scared when you're about to start something new :D If you've prepared and planned everything, you'll be fine :D GOOD LUCK!!!

Oh? Really? You've only now just realized that saying "The Revolution has already begun" every other post cheapens its meaning or impact?

Nonetheless, I'd be rather curious to see what your webseries would be like and what it's main focus would be.

I'm working hard to start up a couple of different web series of my own for posting on my 2nd Youtube channel. I've had some rough patches in recording the first two episodes that I'll have to spend a lot of time fixing in post so that they look as good as possible. But once they're on-line, my hope is that they will serve as inspiration and encouragement to other young filmmakers about how to approach one's own career in this industry. Because while we all come from different walks of life, a lot of us all value the same things, and these are values that newcomers should learn to take into their own hearts as well, because it will make their work stronger.

I don't think so. The cultural revolution that is already happening got started years ago. But the contribution I hope to make, by helping to empower poor people by teaching them how to make films, has not yet begun. When I was referring to referring to "The Revolution", hinting that I was going to start it, I was specifically referring to the culture of filmmaking, an art that has largely been a rich-man's sport. But when I refer to the revolution that has already begun, I was referring to the worldwide cultural revolution that has been taking place largely because of the prevalence of social media.

Give yourself realistic hard deadlines and stick to them and fear may enter the equation but it doesn't let you procrastinate if you actually stick to the hard deadlines you give yourself.

I have a real problem with 'doing'. That's why I started a pre production vlog for my latest project. If I promise things, even just to 100 viewers, I have to deliver. It's upped my productivity no end!

Right. I get that, and I've done similar things before. But when I got cold feet on this one, it was because I'm not just promising a small project that will be completed within a week or so, or whatever. In the very first episode of this web-series, I'll be promising the completion of my next feature film, with a detailed behind-the-scenes documentation of the entire process. In addition to that, in the very first episode I'll be promising a lengthy instructional course, that is supposed to be followed in sequence, and that will be tied to the behind-the-scenes stuff. The behind-the-scenes stuff and the instructional stuff will have lots of bleed-over, and will often be one and the same.

That's a really big commitment!

IT, I appreciate your sentiments, especially since I happen to be the world's best procrastinator. But in this particular instance, my delay was not a fault of procrastination. I'm being honest in this thread -- I stopped short because of fear that I couldn't pull it off. A couple days ago, I remembered something important -- I've already done this. Not this specific thing. But I've accomplished things that once felt impossible to me. So yes, we're still moving forward with this plan.

In addition to the writing of the screenplay, I've also got some vlogs to record, while figuring out the new logo. I'm hiring an artist from fiverr to work on the logo.

Thanks for your thoughts, everybody!

Update:

In retrospect, I'm glad I got cold feet. I'm still tweeking the overall concept, and I think the project will be better for it.

I think I'm finally ready to move forward. First task is that I need a syllabus. Gonna work on that tonight, and maybe post it here?

Yes, post it!!!! I have a friend that does Indee films and he told me to NEVER be afraid to show people your work!!!!

Thank you for the encouragement! :)

There are many short films that I've posted publicly, and I'd be glad to send you some links. I have a feature film that is currently only available via a secret online link. If you'd like to watch it, I'd be glad to send you a private message with the link. For now, here's the trailer - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGqp4VYaoYU

What I was talking about posting in this thread, however, is actually just the subjects that I plan to cover in an on-line film school that I'm in the planning stage on. :)
