Low Budget Challenge

Dang! I'm still brainstorming how best to assemble the vehicles.

Need to hit some peeps up for dialogue, too, after tweaking the script a wee bit.

This has barely begun, porkchop!

Keep at it, you have such a hilarious concept here, this thing could go viral for you Steve. I think your concept work is better than my writing!

Yeah, well... Let's just acknowledge right up front I'm "cheating" by taking the "creative route" by great and far measures. Don't expect anything Kubrick-y.
Forgiving the dialog, I'm mostly in it for the editing practice.
After looking over the rough principal P I see that I need to stop shooting like I see things already edited in my mind and just linger on each shot a bit longer.
I wouldn't at all be surprised if I'm going to need to shoot more than a couple pick ups, which may be two weeks out.

And I had a wonderful VO actress for the INTERVIEWER gimme a no-show. :(
Poop.

GL!

EDIT: I think DEADline is a bit strong, but what's the ballpark submission time frame we're shooting for?

I'm reasonable, it's not like you're going to turn this in september 2 and I'm not going to look at your month of work. Around the beginning of september.

Good luck to you also Ray, I'm looking forward to checking it out.

It starts off good, and I was really keen right up until the trunk gets opened. After that it turned into something else....anyway good luck to whoever tackles that one.

even the end is funny if you have a darker sense of humor. Sometimes you have to look at the unfair parts of life, how people act or become, and just laugh at it. It helps me get through the day.

so how is everyone doing on this? I'm pretty hyped to see these submissions. You still in Ray?

Here's a sample of what you're custom prize might look like, though longer than these of course

I'm actually going to try to do this :P. I don't know how I'll get permission for use of a squad car, but my friends dad is a cop so maybe I can get the uniforms....hmm definitely looking into it, I loved the script.

Whut? Huh... ?

H3ll, YES I'm in.

I don't know if it'll warrant the offered prize, but it's plenty good reason for me to:
- find props
- find actors
- find a location
- play with my camera
- play with some in camera effects
- work the script
- work on primary audio editing
- work on video editing
- layering audio
- upload with fear and trepidation that youtube won't bugger it.
- await my due educational beatings with mackerels

The more times I do this I'm hoping the slicker I'll get at the process from stem to stern.
I'm RAPIDLY developing appreciation for the hassle audio editing is and cultivating a deep respect for actors professional enough to get their sh!t down in one or two takes.
God knows simply having the camera crew simply being able to capture the shot in one or two takes is pretty [expletive] impressive to me.

Awesome, glad to hear you're having fun with it. Just one month left. Winner will be announced via short film in early September. I'm considering adding a bonus prize and a second place prize. More on that later.

Well, if anyone is interested, here's one cheap way to do it. Sound is what will pull it off.

Minimum 3 actors. Driver, Cop and Interviewer.

Shoot from inside the car as the driver is driving. Have red and blue lights flash inside the car (add the whoop whoop sound) and have the driver stop.

From there you can move into a parking lot or your driveway. Have a sound track with highway cars passing in the bg. Show cop against the sky from an intimidating low angle so you dont have to show the highway. Show passenger close up from a high angle and get only the car interior in the bg. Film.

When cop goes for the trunk, just keep the camera on the drivers face and show his surprised reactions. When driver is forced to get out of car, just keep the camera in car and we just hear what is going on offscreen.

Cut to interviewer looking at camera with the cop next to him/her. Bg can be trees by the side of the road so you can film it in a convenient location. Just keep the audio track of the highway playing. The rest of the characters can be just heard off screen and we can watch the reactions of the interviewer and cop to them.

Or just be Lucas and greenscreen everything.

Do you all know people willing to act for you ?

Everybody is talking about props when I really think that the main issue is actors. Delivering such a speech isn't easy for just about anyone.

I like the idea, and very nice graphics Nate, it really makes me dream of having one for myself.

Ok, It's the Deadline.

I'll offer a 3 day grace period and then announce the winner.

There's still time to do this, if someone wants to go the stick figure theater route.

Embed your youtube submissions here.

No submissions yet and one day past the deadline. I know several of you were working on this, you are turning in your submissions right?

Nate, I've shot mine but haven't edited a single scene.

Deadline or not, I want you know I WILL BE SUBMITTING this likely next week, FWIW.

My sincerest apologies and I appreciate the provocation to do this project.
