Greetings from Fort Knox

Hello everyone. My name is Ben and I'm currently in production of a documentary titled "The Motor Pool." It's a first-person account of my upcoming deployment to Afghanistan with a group of mechanics. I've seen many war documentaries that focus on the soldiers who are "in the fight," but never one that focuses on a support crew that mainly stays on the FOB.

My background is mainly in audio production. I started in local radio in Jefferson City, MO then worked at Learfield Communications before a 9-year run at XM Satellite Radio where I worked as a Production Director. I left XM about a year and a half ago and started a music blog called Music Fog. Shortly after that, I decided on a change and joined the Army, where I work as a 91D at Fort Knox, KY.

I've always loved watching and making shorts, but this is my first attempt at a feature-length doc. I'll be posting brief clips to my YouTube channel throughout the deployment and when I return will parlay them into a finished product which I hope to send out to the festivals. I've already started with short clips and hope they will grow in quality as I acquire more equipment (60D, primes, etc) and skill.

Just wanted to introduce myself and give my best to all of you who contribute to this amazing resource for aspiring filmmakers.

I have posted a link to my channel below. And advice or constructive criticism is greatly appreciated!

Best,

Ben

There is a bar in Jeff city named THE BAR. on wednesdays, if I remember right, they have 3fer

night. Needles to say, I was pleasantly suprised whne my order of 2 BLs and 2 shots of jaiger

netted me a six pack of beer and shots. Nice. And Welcome.

I'll be in Ft. Knox in a couple of days to see my son graduate from his AIT (he's with the 1-81 Armored Division). Welcome to the boards.

I'm now in Ft. Knox (well, just south of it in Radcliff). Just ate at the leader's club and will be in Olive Theater in the morning to see the graduation ceremony.

Enjoy the ceremony and welcome to Fort Knox! If you're still here in the evening I would recommend a beer at The Rocker II. I live next door so it's extremely convenient.

I'll take that under consideration, but I think we're leaving for Mississippi after the ceremony and hanging out with my son... but If I can convince the rest of the folks I'm with to stop -- it'll almost certainly happen :)

I wasn't able to put aside the time to stop, I'm in Mississippi now. I'd like to have met you in person, but the time didn't exist to do so -- whirlwind tour of the south going on. Sounds like we're going to Tupelo today to see Elvis' pad.
