Hello everyone. My name is Ben and I'm currently in production of a documentary titled "The Motor Pool." It's a first-person account of my upcoming deployment to Afghanistan with a group of mechanics. I've seen many war documentaries that focus on the soldiers who are "in the fight," but never one that focuses on a support crew that mainly stays on the FOB.
My background is mainly in audio production. I started in local radio in Jefferson City, MO then worked at Learfield Communications before a 9-year run at XM Satellite Radio where I worked as a Production Director. I left XM about a year and a half ago and started a music blog called Music Fog. Shortly after that, I decided on a change and joined the Army, where I work as a 91D at Fort Knox, KY.
I've always loved watching and making shorts, but this is my first attempt at a feature-length doc. I'll be posting brief clips to my YouTube channel throughout the deployment and when I return will parlay them into a finished product which I hope to send out to the festivals. I've already started with short clips and hope they will grow in quality as I acquire more equipment (60D, primes, etc) and skill.
Just wanted to introduce myself and give my best to all of you who contribute to this amazing resource for aspiring filmmakers.
I have posted a link to my channel below. And advice or constructive criticism is greatly appreciated!
Best,
Ben
