Dramaturgist & Philosopher with an unusual view on things...

Its posible. He made the soundtrack for the Last Panthers using Piano and the Sequential Prophet 6. But I dont know what else he used for those tracks.

Vaguely along those lines, you may want to check out "Johnny Montana," about an aimless kid who becomes a "call boy."

It was the first feature on which I did audio post; my work is only fair, but the film did well on the Festival Circuit, winning Moondance Best Feature and another win in Australia.
Just need a professional ear to listen to this:

Is she doing the accompaniment by herself or is it a computer?

A bit of both. She's using a rhythm loop to duplicate and repeat the introduction she first played on the upright piano. The box is on top of the upright piano (Axai brand, overlabeled with the word Asfalt - not sure who/what that is! [Edit - Asfalt records, her label. Makes sense now! ])

You can see at about 6m20s that she clears the previous rhythm and sets it up to record the synthesiser before she plays the melody on the upright. What's impressive in that piece is that she timed her transition to the upright piano perfectly to include the pause that she left when she started the loop. At about 12min she's layering a new melody on top of three looped rhythms.

Thank you so much for explaining! I tried to follow what she is doing, but my lack of knowledge made me doubt how I should value her work. Thanks!

Having seen various solo artists perform live using similar technology, I would say she's one of the better practitioners of the art! Obviously with all things technological, there are versions of the device that allow you to apply more or less creative processes to the recorded segment, but in the end, even the most sophisticated can only replay what you've already given it, so the application is somewhat limited to music that relies more on repetitive themes rather than complex orchestration.

Going off on a tangent: I was much more impressed with how she manipulated the inner workings of the upright piano, coupled with the use of the pedals, to create some very un-piano-like sounds in the intro to the first piece! I'm wondering if it's a central/eastern European thing - I've often seen Swiss and Austrian players of the hammered dulcimer do something similar.

Yes to all of that.

The "box" looks like an Akai MPC or MPD series (can't get a good look at it).

Robert Fripp used to do this sort of thing with multiple analog tape machines - it was called Frippertronics. It was essentially long tape loops, but recorded, replayed and improvised over live.

Sort of reminded me of prepared piano pieces by John Cage. He was commissioned to do music (I believe it was for Twyla Tharp) for a dance called Bacchanale. He describes it all at 14:55

Here's a short example of a prepared piano piece.

Here's a "How To" prepare a piano.

In "Take A Pebble" by ELP (Emerson, Lake and Palmer) Keith Emerson held down chords without making the strings sound, then strummed the strings with a guitar pick.

Thanks guys! Sometimes it is good not to understand and just to enjoy. But in this case I was, as I said, not sure about how appreciate it:) thanks!

Hi, I studied film dramaturgy and philosophy and I have many ideas... So, for anyone in need of a script editor or coauthoring a scenario...

Besides, and maybe this illustrates my unusual look at the world, I am looking for people who want to discuss the concept of an intellectual porn movie.
Its John. I am 15 years experienced actor from İstanbul/Turkey. Mainly, I acted on theatre's but also have some serie, movie and short movie experiences. The last short movie that i acted as headrole won the best drama movie award in Canada Alternative Short Movie Fest. Recently, I started to creat new ideas for intellectual movies and decided to start with a short movie. My ideas and stories are sexuality based and aiming to create real art movies without hiding life's sexual reality. I would like to meet and talk with new art people who has passion for art, phsycology and pornography. I need brain storm for my specific idea or a women eye on my project.

Hi John! Not sure if Indietalk allows this kind of content, but I am open to share my view. Mind that I will judge the content from an dramaturgist / philosophical point of view, and am not interested in discussing / seeing / or even imagining;) plain dirty movies...

You can decide. Here is the Synopsis of my movie:

Gazelle (20), a nymphomaniac who is not a very social person and loves to play the violin, is the only daughter of parents who are both devout Christians and lawyers. She cannot tell anyone, including her conservative family, about this nymphomaniac situation that makes her life difficult. Since adolescence, the only thing she feels happy about is the violin instrument and music, which she is passionate about. While still in high school, winning local and national violin playing competitions is testament to her talent. However, while she was taking violin lessons, the violin teacher who discovered Gazelle's irresistible sexual desires was the first man to harass her. Although she was caught between conservative thoughts and a love of art, she never give up on his violin. In her last year of high school, her parents forbid Gazelle from playing the violin, thinking she can concentrate better on her studies, and pressure her to study law. After her father broke Gazelle's violin at the end of a controversial dinner, she states that she would accept this request of his family on one condition. Studying law at a university in another city. Gazelle thinks she can make freer decisions when she's away from her family. In retaliation for Gazelle's request, her parents say that they will not send her any money, so she has to work to cover her own living expenses.
Gazelle, in this new city, where she came by accepting her family's conditions in order to approach her dreams, is trying to earn money to earn a living and buy a new violin, while trying to finish university. Gazelle's sexual desires begin to attract more attention of those around her due to the city and university environment where she had her first sexual intercourse. The negative effects of nymphomania, which she has been experiencing for a long time, continues to be troublesome in her job interviews and in her daily life. Faced with a new challenge every day due to her illness, Gazelle falls in love with her 42-year-old boss, Boor, during a job interview to apply for secretary at a time when she is starting to lose hope. No one has ever treated the introverted Gazelle the way Boor did. Despite having just met Gazelle, Boor doesn't hesitate to show her that he likes her, giving her a violin. But is Boor really the kind of person Gazelle wants?

Three questions arise while reading your synopsis:
1) Is there a connection between the violin and her nymphomania?
2) Do you as the author consider nymphomania an illness?
3) What does she understand by 'falling in love'?

It is normal that you didnt get any vibe because you do not know all the story about movie. Thats why i wanted to make connections in this forum. Because, i know it will take time to explain for me and understand for others. Let's come to your questions;
1) Yes, there is a connection between the violin and her nymphomania. When she plays violin, she feels her sexuality with more meaningful. Without volin, everything just gives pain to her soul.
2) Nymphomania is not an illness in my opinion but it is a phsycological issue. I think i made mistake while translating the text from my language
3) Falling love is something she never felt before. Because all men in her life tried to have sex with her without emotional feelings.

From the limited description you've given us, it seems to me that "nymphomania" is not the translation you should be using in this story. Nothing you've written describes any hint of nymphomania - only the normal desires of a normal young woman growing up in a sexually repressed family, and in a typically "macho" social environment.

It might be worth watching the piano "sex" scene in Un Peu, Beaucoup, Aveuglement to see how this link between musical performance and sensuality/sexual repression/unemotional harassment has already been shown on screen.

Thanks Celtic. As you mentioned this is just a limited information and this is a synopsis. Thank you also for your advices. Definetly will look at it.
