Best movie news I've heard in a while

The final 30 minutes are the most tense 30 minutes of film I think I've ever seen.

Not to butt into your extremely entertaining conversation about toilets and gnawing but, CF you need to watch more Hitchcock movies

I do like Boyle though, ive seen all his movies. Trainspotting still wins imo.

Lol, I think your intervention came just in time Ernest.

I realise you were talking to CF, but I'm gonna jabber away anyway.

I've never seen a Hitchcock film except for one scene from Psycho that we looked at in grade 11 film and tv. And the only Danny Boyle movie I've seen is Slumdog Millionaire. And I didn't actually see it all.

Please don't hurt me.

Well ive seen about 40 of his movies, theyre all really good. I think if you like north by northwest and pyscho, ull like the rest as well.
But to cover some of the big ones, how abt: dial m for murder, vertigo, rear window, to catch a thief and strangers on a train?
lemme know u like em! i wish i was watching them for the first time again :)

"Oh no, dear. Do not be afraid. I wont hurt you..." He said as he slowly played with a knife behind his back.

j/k

Well i dont know what kind of movies you generally like but i think everyone like some Danny Boyle movie.
Theyre all quite good actually. As i mentioned, Trainspotting would be the best imo but he has made movies in a lot of different genres. And if i were you, i would pick my fav genre and watch a movie by him in that category. You might like his style and take on it.

I do realize its getting to that point where Hitchcock is not considered valuable information by a lot of the younger film makers but he truly was unique, well versed in his craft and the master of suspense. If you would like to get to know him, i recommend starting with dial m for murder. its pacing is a bit faster than some of his other movies.

And @ papertwin: i got myself a copy of Old Boy. im going to watch it in the next couple of days. ull get a short review from me afterwards.

ps

sorry for the triple post everyone.

Lol. I think I've hired Trainspotting out before and never got around to watching it.
I agree, Hitchcock is one of the greats and aspiring film makers would more than likely benefit from watching his work. But like I said, I'm easily scared :(

I've never watched a Hitchcock film in my life, but have read a 500 page analysis of them. What that says about me I don't know.

Well put it this way,

Hitchcock nearly put family-run secluded motels on lonely highways out of business,

and made a generation scared of large flocks of birds.

Just like Spielberg nearly put beach resorts out of business.

Yeah, that Vince Vaugh movie was Hitchcock's best. I just wish they would've shot it in black-and-white. I think the shower scene would've been so much more effective, in B/W.

If you're easily scared, you can watch To Catch a Thief. It has plenty of suspense but its not scary at all. And its funny as well.

Very true, actually. Maybe I'll re-start my Hitchcock education today. What'ya think? "Rear Window"? "Birds"? (I've already seen "NXNW" and "Psycho".

The 39 Steps. The 1935 version he made while still in the UK, not the color version he did later.

Definitely Rear Window. One of the best "all visual" character introductions of all time.

Might have some other suggestions later.

Hey guys!

Kinda new here, but I also wanted to throw in a vote for Rear Window.

The fact that someone could pull off one of the most suspenseful movies of all time, basically shot in one location, with a diegetic soundtrack... is really impressive.

And, as David mentioned, the all-visual intro to the character was great.

(Correct me if I'm wrong on the soundtrack... but it seems I recall it that way.)

So happy to hear this. Hopefully it comes true. I really do hope they stick with the 28 MONTHS LATER title and originally reported story line (that it would take place in the midst of a world wide run of the rage virus). My only gripe would be if it is too similar to "World War Z" -- which, if you're a zombie fan, you have to read. I'd also like to see the focal point remain on the characters instead of the widening social issues seen in WEEKS.

And my fav Hitchcock film:

ROPE

Two guys kill a classmate, stuff his body in a trunk, and have a dinner party in his honor (while his body grows cold inches away from party guests). Shot in a series of 10 long takes (he would have shot it all in one take if the technology existed then). Extraordinary film!
