Make really really stupid crap videos with kitties. Youtube is all about that sort of thing.
id second that.
or How-to videos..
or extremely awesome video that will make me glued to the screen, and keep my concetration away from all the advertisement... which is extremely rare.
There are plenty of filmmakers on youtube that get solid views. And no, their films don't mainly consist of cats.
Absolutely. The question is how did they get there? There's a lot of noise on youtube...how do you rise above it and get noticed? It's a good question that I don't have the answer to (self promotion has always been my weakest point). Do you have a couple examples of good filmmakers that do well, youtube-wise? Maybe we can take a look at how they got to where they are.
I think that's the Fox "News" approach, honestly.
Check out this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4drucg1A6Xk
Only uploaded 7 weeks ago. Also, check out the "making of" on his channel.
While that is his first upload to that channel, Dan Trachtenberg had quite a big following already and many avenues to promote. He currently hosts the online show "Totally Rad Show," previously hosted the online show "Geekdome," and has over 27,000 followers on twitter. It is going to be much different launching a video that big without two huge audiences (TRS and Twitter) to tell about it as well as previously being known for other shows.
