top-list Your Top 10 Films.

Well there doesn't seem to be a recent thread about this. And hell it'd be an interesting set of posts.
My list, as is everyone's I'm sure, is ever changing. But as far as inspiration it's pretty concrete so far:

10. The 400 Blows
9. A Clockwork Orange
8. GoodFellas
7. There Will Be Blood
6. Breathless
5. Amadeus
4. Taxi Driver
3. Bonnie and Clyde
2. The Godfather, Part II
1. Magnolia

:weird: Your turn Indietalkers.

Master and Commander
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0311113/

Saving Private Ryan

It's A Wonderful Life (I could substitute any number of Capra films here)

Singin' In The Rain http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0045152/

Star Wars, Episode IV (before Lucas tinkered with it...) (V and VI as well)

This is by no means definitive. It's always hard to whittle it down when you love films; the list changes from year to year, sometimes month to month or even week to week depending upon how I'm feeling. It would be hard to limit myself to just ten even by genre. I could easily add a number of concert films.

In no particular order:

Star Wars IV
Moulin Rouge
Akira
Tron: Legacy
12 Angry Men
Bladerunner
Phantasm II
Mad Max
Raiders of the Lost Ark
Highlander

Analyse that.

In no particular order

10) The Prestige
9) Red Dawn (More to do with when I was born and my age when it came out)
8) City of God
7) Band of Brothers (ok, so it's a mini-series)
6) The Outlaw Jose Wales (Again, another I grew up with)
5) North by Northwest
4) Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid
3) The Departed
2) Goodfellas (Every movie needs Ray Liotta pistol whipping someone.)
1) The Shawshank Redemption (May sound cliche, but oh well)

Honorable mentions (Television series): The Twilight Zone (original series) and The Shield.

In... alphabetical order:

AmeliƩ
Beverly Hills Cop
Casino Royale (2006)
The Fifth Element
The Incredibles
A Knight's Tale
Kung Fu Panda
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Shaun of the Dead
Snatch

Not so much a top 10 as 10 of my favorites:

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
Boogie Nights
Salvador
Apocalypse Now
The Evil Dead
All Quiet on the Western Front (1930)
King Kong (1933)
The Thing (1982)
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Petrified Forest

I didn't think it would be possible for me to choose 10. These are off the top of my head. So many films mean so much to me that I feel bad that I can only include 10. I see so many films that I'm constantly in love with a new one. These are a portion of the ones that have stuck with me over the years.

My definitive list, in order!

10. Team America
9. Pulp Fiction
8. Dark Knight
7. Jurassic Park
6. Shawshank Redemption
5. Wall-E
4. Forest Gump
3. The Matrix
2. Avatar
1. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

This thread is way too friendly. Somebody needs to start throwing some poop. I'll start it, if nobody else does. That's not a threat, but a promise.

11. Apocalypse Now
10. Casablanca
9. The Last Temptation of Christ
8. The Ninth Gate
7. Galaxy Quest
6. Stardust
5. Cast Away
4. Mulholland Drive
3. Children of Men
2. From Hell
1. Sleepy Hollow

What Alcove Audio and Mthompsonfilms said about such lists.

Definately not my definitive list or necessarily what I think are the best films ever made. More like a list of films I'm more emotionally, or aesthetically, or intellectually (yes, I know...oh, brother) attached to in my recent life. I got it down to 11. Apocalpyse Now simply has to be included in any such list because it simply is one of the best films ever made. I can't exclude Casablanca either. =D

1. Fichtclub
2.Erasorhead
3.Songs From the second floor
4.Idiots and angels
5.Kung Fu panda
6.Black dynamite
7.La Fee
8.L topo
9.Moonryse Kingdom
10.The trail

BUGGER OFF WITH YOUR PANSY LIST!
Jake Sully is the dumbest jar-head ever! Or Cameron would have been!

Here's my top ten of YOUR TOP TENS! BASK IN THE META!

Taxi Driver
Leon
Being There
Bladerunner
The Prestige
AmeliƩ
The Evil Dead
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
The Last Temptation of Christ
Songs From the second floor

I love too many different kind of movies. The only one that's ever ALWAYS on my list is Legend.

Raging Bull
Rope
Jaws
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
Godfather
Casablanca
Star Wars Episode IV
Finding Nemo
American Beauty
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

I'm a little surprised by everyone's lists. Still especially Cracker's. :hmm:

Honorable mentions go to Mean Streets, Shoot the Piano Player, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Dark Knight, Ran, Rashomon, Pulp Fiction, Vertigo and Annie Hall.

NOT in any particular order, and certainly different from many of the other lists here:

Match Point
Shawshank Redemption
Casablanca
Fargo
Crash
Before Sunrise
Lost in Translation
Love, Actually
Strangers on a Train
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

They seem to consist mostly of American films. Not that that's a bad thing, but it's a bit surprising that a lot of members are inspired by the same films, which is a bit fascinating.

Ah, okay, I get where you're coming from. And I think that's the problem with top 10s in general. Ask for top 10 with no context, you'll get people's favorite (lots of Americans here, so a lot of people are posting films they grew up with). Ask for top 10 BEST films, you might get different lists (lots of films I think are brilliant that I don't like. And films I love that absolutely suck). And if you ask for the top 10 films that inspired you to be a filmmaker, you'll get VERY different lists.

Personal example, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves wouldn't make my top 10 favorite or best list (though it's still a fun movie). However, Kamen's score is definitely one of the reasons I got into film music. Legend still tops that list too, for me.

There are films that I think are good.
There are films that I enjoy.
And then there are films that I think are good and I enjoy.
