fernando97 -- If you found my list confounding, wait'll you get a load of this -- I've never seen "Godfather II", because "Godfather" bored me to death. I wouldn't normally try to associate myself with Peter Griffith, but he kinda sums it up, perfectly...

Alcove -- I'm curious to hear your take on "Prometheus", if/when you see it, because after watching it, I couldn't help but think of "Contact". They're obviously very different, but I think they've got similar threads running through them.

Ray -- Jake Sully vs. any of the lead characters in your top-10 list, in a no-holds-barred battle to the death. Hands-down, my money is on Sully. The only competition would be Mr. Incredible, but I still take Jake because he rides on the back of a freaking dragon!

JoshL -- I love the idea of making a top-10 of everyone else's top-10s.

MichaelAllen -- I don't try to cause trouble. I do. I can't help it, I'm all jacked-up on Mountain Dew.

Nick -- I'm surprised to see "Scream" on your list. Not because it isn't a great movie (it is), I'm just surprised it's on your list. I assume you've seen "Cabin in the Woods", right?

Okay, I've compiled a list of films that have multiple votes (this took way longer than I thought it would). "Casablanca" is kicking butt, with 5 votes. If you count an entire franchise as one entity, then "Indiana Jones" is a close 2nd, with 4 votes, with the "Star Wars" and "Godfather" franchises each garnering 3 votes. But the actual current 2nd place is "Shawshank", with 3 votes.

One other thing I've noted -- there's no question which director keeps popping up more often than any others. I think there's pretty good reason why he is, and likely always will be, my favorite. :)

You confound me, Cracker. :weird:

If you're talking about Spielberg, then no, not really. If you're talking about Cameron, still no, not really.

Oh no Spielberg is definitely one of my favorites. He's one of my favorite 10 directors for sure. I just think there are more directors who have made more significant changes in the industry, which is pretty hard considering what Steven's done (he practically made the first blockbuster). For example, Martin Scorsese.

Well, if we were talking about which director has influenced the most changes, I'm sure Scorsese would get much love, but I imagine we'd probably hear a lot more about people like Hitchcock and Welles.

But I was only commenting on the lists in this thread. Spielberg is dominating!

By the way, I do plan to eventually watch "Godfather II", and if I like it, I'll give "Godfather" another try. You know how sometimes you're just in the wrong mood for a movie? And then the next time you watch it, you love it? That doesn't happen to me often, but there are a few movies that I now love that I didn't like on the first viewing ("Serenity" being the most recent example).

1) 2001
2) Blue Velvet
3) United 93

others:
Contact
Dr. Strangelove
Rear Window

Of all the films mentioned in this thread, only "Contact" made it in my top 10.

Chickeeeeeeeeen.

Buk, buk, buk, buk...

Here, let me hold your hand, Honey. I know it's scary, but, we already know what your number one would be, right? That'll help you get started, won't it? Well, sure it willllll....

I love Scream (and Scream 2 and even Screams 3 and 4 even though I know they're crap). Yes, I saw Cabin in the Woods a couple of time: big fan.

I would like to add Rear Window to my list, thank you, someone, for reminding me of that.

This is a difficult one, but my top ten list consists of films that i can watch over and over again. They may not all be technically perfect etc, but they all get repeat viewings from me.

1) Aliens : Special Edition
2) Legend : Ultimate Edition
3) Brazil : Directors Cut
4) Tron
5) Blade Runner : The Final Cut
6) Raiders of the Lost Ark
7) The Abyss : Special Edition
8) Black Rain
9) John Carpenter's The Thing
10) Children of Men

I will not be baited...I will not be baited...naah, screw it. You do get points for including Stardust though. How about 10 favorite movies that aren't on anyone else's list so far? Hmmm...that means I can't use Legend (curse you Fraught! Second curses for Brazil!) Let's try, in no particular order:

a. Wild Strawberries
b. Kurosawa's Dreams
c. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
d. Inland Empire
e. The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra
f. Troll 2
g. Serenity
h. Night of the Living Dead
i. Hellraiser
j. Jacob's Ladder

Cabin in the Woods may well end up on this list soon; I need to see it a few more times. Wings of Desire is not too far off of the list, ditto La Haine. Oh, and MirrorMask. I'm also not a fan of the Godfather movies...not because I think they're bad; I think they're amazing. I just generally don't care about mafia movies. Except Ghost Dog, if that counts. I love that film. Too many awesome movies out there!

While I'm at it, here's 10 film that inspired me to make film music:

0000. Legend
0001. Susperia
0010. Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
0011. Edward Scissorhands
0100. Nightbreed
0101. Dead Man
0110. City of Lost Children
0111. Lord of the Rings
1000. Blade Runner
1001. The Mission
