Where do you guys rent your cameras?

do you rent cameras? or do you have your own?
where can i rent for the cheapest?
im talking about 35 mm film ones by the way

In Miami there are plenty of camera houses. Look in your yellow pages under Motion Picture.

thanks alot guys... what do you do to get the cheapest price? do you straight up just ask for a discount?

BTW... i might not have stated the question right. Im looking for 35 mm film cameras, not DV cameras, sorry about that

Yup, you mentioned that in your OP. ;)

Have you considered hiring a DP that owns his own 35mm kit? You get the gear and the professional bundled up.

Dunno the best way to get discounted rates on cameras, but for the stock:

1) Figure out how much footage you need

2) Call Fuji & ask for a quote

3) Call Kodak and ask for a quote.

4) Tell Kodak that Fuji is cheaper.

5) Accept Kodak's new & improved rate.

Good luck. o/

I think it’s the rare DP who owns 35mm equipment. But it sure
can’t hurt to look around.

It’s also rare that the “book” rate is what they actually get.
That’s what big budget shows and commercials pay. What you do to
get the cheapest price is:

1 - hire an experienced DP how has a relationship with a rental
house.

2 - shoot at a slow time.

3 - ask.

Most rental places will do a three day week. Meaning you will pay
the day rate for three days and keep the equipment for seven.
Sometimes using an older, less “hot” camera will save you money -
you can get a two day week. With a connected DP who brings them a
lot of business you can even get a one-and-a-half day week.

I made a film in Florida a couple of years ago, we rented out of
Miami. I didn’t do the deal so I don’t know where they rented, but
I know they got a one-and-a-half day week for the five week shoot.
We used an older Arri, but it was well maintained so there were no
issues.
