Made in Dagenham 8/10

The film is based on a true story of the Ford sewing machinists strike of 1968. The strike was huge for female laborers worldwide and led to the Equal Pay Act of 1970 (or so says wiki). Made in Dagenham dramatically depicts the events surrounding that strike. The lead role is played by Sally Hawkins, who is awesome in the film. Very, very funny. She plays Rita who unwittingly ends up in the forefront of this strike. As you can imagine, Ford gets pissed about the strike and drama ensues. I won't say much more, except that the supporting cast is also great. Albert Passingham and Miranda Richardson play memorable supporting roles in the film. Very uplifting. Not exactly the chick flick that I expected before watching. Definitely recommend Made in Dagenham.

S.W.A.T. Firefight. 7/10

This was a great follow up to the 2003 film. It doesn't have the star power of the first, but I thought the cast did a great job nonetheless. The one very recognizable face in the film is Robert Patrick, who plays the villain. I've always thought highly of him in the villain role - esp. after Terminator 2. I also thought it was great that they filmed in Detroit. I'm happy to see Detroit getting some love from Hollywood. Very solid action film. The training sequences were especially cool.

The armorer in me is going...."very nice detail on that weapon, a G36?. Same with the actor's loadout. But where's his safety glasses?"

Last one I saw was Battle: LA. Absolutely loved it. Visually stunning. Loved the lack of too much steadycam work. Gave it a more personal "I am there" feeling. Storyline got a little clunky, but I was able to overlook that. 8.754268703/10 (gotta be original)

Edit: Got the name wrong. Thanks Ernest! And forgot my rating.

Limitless- better than I expected, overly long though!

Jackass 3- Not everyone's cup of tea but I really enjoyed it, picked it up on BluRay earlier this week, great fun!

I just re-watched a documentary called "Shut Up & Sing". It was about the Dixie Chicks and the fallout from comments they made about President Bush. Definitely a 10/10. I don't really like country music at all, but I love this doc. I even like the fact that the Dixie Chicks stuck to their guns about the whole situation.

The director was Barbara Kopple, my favorite documentary filmmaker :)

Middle Men (7/10)

trailer

I don't know, it just never connected. Perhaps the lead character isn't meant to connect, and instead was to be kept at a distance and studied. Luke Wilson plays the guy who created the porn industry online by separating the content providers from the customers, with a company that gave plausible deniability to the masses.

There's also a sort of banal subplot with some Russian mobsters, which is very much played out, but in this case we're supposed to accept that it's all real. Okay, it's real.

Only, I never much cared for Wilson's character, or what he was stuck in the middle of. You'd think there'd be some way to get us invested in his plight, but it came off rather trite and uninteresting.

Could probably have used more sex, too...

Stardust 7/10

Gave this film a look because I read about it in the best little known films thread on this forum. Pretty decent film with cool cameos from Robert De Niro and Ricky Gervais but the real thrill for me came from the musical score by Ilan Eshkeri. The man has skills. If you like big orchestral scores check it out.

Monsters 8.5/10

Very inspiring. Loved the pace, directing, and the story for the most part. Such a breath of fresh air in tired genres.

'The Eye'
Rating: C+
Good atmosphere and powerful visual effects make this one creepy and interesting. Good performances all round. But the end was a let down really.

'A Bittersweet Life'
Rating: B
I really liked this movie. Great direction from Ji-Woon Kim and an exceptional performance from the leading actor who played Sunwoo (his name escapes me).
The plot was well done and I really liked the placing. I loved the ending, most of it taking place in complete silence, it was very powerful, especially when coupled with the ending narration.

'Candyman'
C+
I liked this a lot. I mean, I like Clive Barker's stuff but I thought this'd just be a traditional slasher movie. It wasn't, fortunately. Good performances from the two leads Virginia Madsen & Tony Todd.
The visual effects were very good and the take on the story was very interesting. I wasn't too fond of the "come back to me" bit on the pyre (anyone who's seen the movie will know the scene). Fortunately it didn't give a disappointing ending. :)

Sucker Punch: -3/10

I also watched Hot Tub Time Machine on Sky Anytime. I'll give it a 6/10, it was ok I guess. John Cusack's aged quite well.

'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?'
A
I loved absolutely everything about it. I mean, I loved the play when I first read it (performing a section for an exam in May). It was just so brilliantly done, fantastically acted by all 4 of the cast and it was so unrelentingly savage and darkly comic. A perfect mix.
Anyone that hasn't seen it definitely should

Garrett Hedlund and Tim McGraw both rocked in this movie.

I really felt like Hedlund could go on and have a relatively successful music career if he wanted. His role was very convincing. And I just really related to his character.

Tim McGraw showed a lot of depth in his character. I feel like he has really come along as an actor. My two fav films of his are Friday Night Lights (where he coincidentally starred with Hedlund) and now Country Strong. The whole film you kind of hate him, but still feel for him because of the ***** he has endured with his wife.

All that said, def check it out - great film.

Limitless
8/10
It had some really nice shots, and color correcting to show how the character was feeling when on the drug. But I feel like they didn't know how to end it.
