movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

I was surprised how much I liked "Twisters". Just a fun, summer movie - what
more can you ask for in July?

Over the Forth of July weekend I saw a 35mm print of "Jaws" in a packed house.
Talk about a fun summer movie.

And then I saw (also in a packed house) a 70mm print of "Apocalypse Now" - the
original '79 version that has no credits. And the print was from Martin Scorsese's
personal collection of film prints.

There are times when I love living in Hollywood...

Deadpool & Wolverine

spoiler free

kinda average, 3/5, the wolverine added almost nothing to the movie IMO, his dialogue was all boring and honestly you could have just replaced hugh jackman with a stuffed doll of wolverine, so everyone else can make their jokes about him, and the movie would have been just about the same.

Worst of all this movie took itself too seriously!!
it had REAL OPENING CREDITS, what the fuck deadpool!!

#2 was better, they had the right tone.

The last film I watched was from a 48 hour film festival.

Here is my critique:
The Session has a solid story with suspense that builds well throughout. The team did a great job with the actor’s small quirks, but more close-up detail shots would have helped emphasize these traits. There were multiple instances of crossing the 180-degree line, which felt jarring and confusing. The outdoor scenes were often overexposed, and some shots lacked color grading, which made them feel flat. On the positive side, the scene revealing the main character as a murderer had strong, moody lighting and dynamic framing, showcasing what the film could have looked like with a more consistent style throughout. Given the 48-hour film festival constraints, the film was well done. I give it one and a half thumbs up!

The Substance was crazy. Fargeat full-on channeled Cronenberg and I loved it.

Going to see Megalopolis in IMAX tonight.

The Enemy of the People 10/10

btw, The Matrix was so real, that we are indeed inside a Matrix today lol.

Here's my dismal piece of crude.

Can you feel the birth of rain
breaking through the hush of dawn
the muted thermals, in fever pain
a thousand spirits waterborne.

The threshold of a nameless cloud
their subtle bodies germinate
a storm spirit shapes out from the shroud
their sorrowful descent permeates.

from that death pulse synthesize
the harmonics of metaphysics
The cardinals of their landverse
blank codes inside the Matrix.

my my this monkey has become more tormented as ever. directorik feel free to ban me.whoosh.

Megalopolis was terrific. It sure feels like Coppola cut this WAY down to
get it into a manageable running time. I can't quite understand why critics
are so down on it but I get why the general movie going audience isn't going
for it.

I IS kind of a mess and certainly self-indulgent, but a master filmmaker gets
to be self-indulgent sometimes. Seeing it on a huge IMAX screen with a big
audience (theater was about 70% full) at 10PM was a great experience.

It's time for some HALLOWEEN HORROR!!!

This movie X (about indie film makers in the 80s producing a porn) has the classic combination of horror and titillation, although IMO it perfectly balances the sexuality with story, everything feels very organic and motivated, and I was entertained the whole time

Mia Goth plays two different characters in this movie, she also plays a geriatric old woman

Mia goth has been a busy girl, making pearl and maxxxine in the wake of X

Pearl has a lonnnnnnggg single take close up of Mia Goth talking for what felt like 7 minutes, it's a very bold choice

Pearl and Maxxxine are average films, not bad, but X is easily the best of the 3

Ha! @sfoster I waste plenty of time watching stuff but mostly not worth taking the extra time to write about :)

I DID like Conclave a lot. It's certainly what I would call "adult drama" meaning dialogue driven with some very interesting plot turns.
The actors are, of course, amazing: the well known ones (including Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, & Isabella Rossellini) as well as the less well known ones (Carlos Diehz, Lucian Msamati, and Jacek Koman are especially noteworthy).

It's definitely not for everyone but even my husband, who takes pride in figuring out the ending of movies in advance, didn't see the final plot twist coming.

We're seeing Anora this coming Tuesday, which should be a bit different :)

I just saw Anora- I give it 9/10 and it's one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.

My only (slight) quibble is that it runs 2 hours and 20 minutes, and I think trimming about 10 minutes would be helpful - but I say that about most movies :)

The budget is listed unofficially at $6 mil, and that feels about right. Sean Baker wrote, directed, edited, and cast the movie.
Mikey Madison stars - she's terrific and deserves any/all awards that she gets.

Most of it takes place around NYC, especially Queens & Brooklyn, and I got a kick out of recognizing places I've been.

I definitely recommend it, as long as you don't have an issue with copious amounts of nudity (seriously).
