software What is your favourite old-game?)

Is that "Roberto Bennini's Mortal Kombat"? Interesting pick......

My favorite old game is "MULE", because of it's richly detailed soundtrack composition and nuanced delivery of melodic concepts.

When I found out I could play solitaire on my porn machine -- everything changed!

I can make it drastically worse.....

This game is similar to solitaire in some ways. But it's 300x as complex, while being just as easy to play. Endlessly addictive. I think I have 2600 hours across 4 years.

If you want to play a game that's very interesting in a different way, you can play Inscryption. It's best played alone in the dead of night during thunderstorms. Amazing work of art this game.

Pong, because it was my first... and you never forget your first. I first started playing it on a $5 billion dollar Univac 1232 (part of the Sperry 1230 systems) when I went to Space Surveillance (satellite control) school inside Cheyenne Mountain (NORAD) back in 1973. My instructors were not amused. 😁😁 Honorable mention for Freecell.

I feel like a closet pervert admitting this publicly, but I've never played Tetris (or Packman) in my life.
You probably have no idea how AMAZING tetris is.
Did you know playing tetris after a traumatic event will reduce your odds of suffering from PTSD?

Interesting right?? Tetris is SO SIMPLE to learn and understand... and YET? It has psychiatric impact? WHY??

I'll tell you why, because Tetris is IMMENSELY complicated for computers!
It cannot even be solved in polynomial time, and in computer terms that means is one of the most complicated problems for a computer to tackle, right up there with the traveling salesman problem.

Computer Science discussion of tetris:

So when you play it you're actually using parts of your brain that aren't engaged with other, simpler tasks.
And yet the game is simple and fun, and free, give it a try

How to play: Rotate pieces with the arrow keys, and stack them in positions to create contiguous horizontal lines without holes in them

You're very persuasive when you're really into something. I'm on the verge of buying a new copy of tetris already, lol.

And you know what? I might just do it.

You know what modern reviewers of the new 30 dollar vr tetris say? They say it's an amazing experience that's worth every penny. And this is from people that play 80 million dollar blockbuster games for a living.

Thanks haha.
There is an online multiplayer one that I mess around with years back, can't remember exactly what it was called.
I'm not totally sold on the idea of tetris in VR since it is intrinsically a 2d game and there are free online multiplayer versions, but if all the reviews are that positive maybe they're on to something

It's still just tetris, I guess I'm just saying I think you're right about this one. They truly did find some kind of once in a lifetime magic here. Something with intrinsic value that stands the test of time.

Did you see the Tetris movie? Not bad!

I play it while watching youtube videos. It makes the boring parts go faster.

Asteroids, on the other hand . . .

I was a huge Asteroids guy! Also played Defender, Golden Axe, Centipede, etc.

Yup. Although once you discovered you could get down to one rock, then lurk in the corner and shoot through the edge of the screen at the little saucer, and zip across when he came out on your side . . . you could rack up a score, but less of a challenge.

I liked Glaxian and Galaga, esp. the table-top ones in a bar :)
