Using Twitter as Marketing Tool?

Well, Twitter is old news now but still INSANELY POPULAR... the only problem most of us face is gaining an audience on there.. How the hell do you do it? I have read so many articles about this topic but still... Its tough. Has anyone had good luck with it?

Thank you in advance for following me ;)

Have you ever used Twitter to learn about films made by people
you don't know, starring actors you've never heard of? Have you
ever bought a film based on something you have read on Twitter?
Do you follow many indie filmmakers like yourself?

I just flew to Canada to crew on a movie that I heard about through Twitter. All the things that you mention (I'm assuming that you were emphasising to make the point of how difficult it is) actually happen all the time on Twitter, so I think it can be an excellent tool.

Just the other day I was having a Twitter conversation with Mike Cahill who wrote and directed a film called Another Earth which was a big favourite at Sundance and I think, from the trailer, looks pretty neat. It's a wonderful networking and marketing tool.

I'm not sure precisely what question you're asking though. We already have a thread where everyone posts their Twitter accounts so we can all follow one another and I created a 'list' of Indietalkers. Are you asking how to get more followers? Or how to market a film through Twitter? Or do you just want people to follow you?

+1 Nicks point.

It's a fantastic networking tool. Great way to keep track of film-meets in your area (and others), location databases, actors, crew etc.

Social networking is making yourself and your business accessible. It's given who/what you represent an identity.

Remember your "Followers" count represents nothing. Build bridges. Get to know your audience. Speak to fellow creatives! (There's an interesting article by @askaaronlee on the matter, worth a read!)

We've got plenty of gigs from Twitter. Plenty of cast/crew.

Outshines FB and other social networking tools because of simplicity and effectiveness. Figure out the ins and outs and use it wisely.

This, all over. I've got jobs on Twitter simply by starting a conversation and being interested in people's work. It's very easy to forget that it's about two-way communication and not just shouting your message into the abyss.
