Unsure film enthusiast

As the title suggests, not sure what I want to do, write and act like Jason Segal, direct, edit, all I know is that I love movies and the process of making them.

Oh and my name is Sina, I live in Toronto Canada and I'm 17 years old.

I'm currently working on little comedic shorts (yea i know it's been done) with a few buddies of mine and my T2i, and after effects (we don't do light saber battles, so no worries).

Thx for reading!

Phew! I was worried you were doing light-saber battles. You can poke an eye out doing that, y'know?

Yep, comedic shorts have been done before. So worn out. Nobody wants to see funny little movies.

Step 1: Introduce yourself.

Check.

Step 2: Post one of your funny little movies.

Step 3: Accept the fact that you are a director. Because directors are awesome.

Haha, well steps 2 and 3 to go still. I gotta disagree with them being worn out, sure there are very terrible ones, but there are still the few that everyone love. Julian Smith for example, I love the cinematography in his shorts and the acting!

Anyways I've already made my first, but the dialogue didn't turn out the way I want to and I'm too embarrassed to show it to you guys! At least for now, haha, but the next one will be good!

Sarcasm, sina. ;)

You're 17. Try everything.

Write and act in a few shorts. Direct and edit a few.
Write, direct and edit a few. Direct and act in a few.
Work with different actors, writers, directors and
editors. If you were to make one little comedic short
a month for the next year, changing it up each time,
working with different people, trying different things,
by September of 2011 when you are 18 you will have
12 completed comedic shorts and a pretty good feel
of what it is you are most passionate about.

Not bad for an 18 year old.

1 Short/ month is the plan. Our first one took 2.5 weeks during the summer, so assuming we're more comfortable and also that there is school, I think that's a realistic goal.

Thx for the advice btw.

Your 17 and you can afford a Canon T2i, when I was your age I could barely afford food!

I cant wait to start seeing the work of this generation of film makers that are almost born with the tools to make motion pictures.

Haha, well it's not like I didn't have to work for it, I slaved my *** overtime at a stinking bread factory last summer and this summer at a more relaxing graphic design firm.

And I agree that we are almost born with the tools, at least it isn't money or equipment that gets in the way of creating films, just creativity. Something I hope/believe that I have.

Don't try to do everything by yourself.

Get your friends to be responsible for some of the aspects and let them do it.

You'll work yourself 6 feet under if you tried to do everything on your own for a film.

I know what you mean, but out of all my friends I'm the only one that knows how to edit, work my camera (trying to teach them), work the angles, and has the ideas/stories in my head.

So in the end that leaves the writing, directing, editing, and since I want to be in my own shorts, acting, up to me. I think it'll be a while until I find a few people that know what they're doing, until then I think I'm forced to work 6 feet under. :(
