top-list Top 5 Foot Chases of All Time

Good God, this was deceptively hard to think up. I can instantly envision nearly sixty-two thousand different brilliant car-chases, but........... foot chases? Not easy at all. Trying to consider all the essentials: good action, good emotion, good story setting. And trying to avoid picking bits that are too brief (ie the glorious but short-lived openers for 28 Weeks Later and Trainspotting). Alas, with all that governmental fanfare, here is my pathetic excuse for a list. Treat it like the Grail because this ranking is, of course, scientifically indisputable. ;)

Top 5 Foot Chases of All Time
  1. Banlieu 13 (first chase)
  2. The Matrix (opener)
  3. Seven (mills)
  4. The Shining (climax)
  5. Blade Runner (the blonde)

Any of you got a better list? Have at it.

Former forum member Kely McClung made a great film a few years back, called Kerberos.

It had a really memorable foot chase sequence in it. I felt so sorry for the stedicam operator on that one.

I don't have a link to the actual chase, but here's the trailer. : Linkage

Met Kely at his Los Angeles premiere. Cool cat.

Anyways, it's a great indie film to watch regardless... and it has that foot chase!

I was gonna say District 13, but then I realized...hehehe.

Crap, did I munch the title when I wrote it? It's called different things in different countries. B13. District B13. Etc. But anyway, you saw it? You like it? Isn't bloody great? I actually dig plot as well.

"Avatard," hahaha. How come you're not throwing that in the mix? I think there's at least one brief run on feet, eh?

Bravo, Modern Day. That Terminator fight alone makes tv worth watching. And as for the Resident Evil bit, God bless the undeniable power of a tilting garbage bin. I'm buying one online now........ to use in the upcoming armageddon. For an extra $29.99 it comes with Milla Jovovich already trapped inside, needing my medical attention.

Nah, it's cool, from the thread title that was the first thing that popped into my mind as well! The sequel isn't bad either and I'm looking forward to the Hollywood remake...only because David Belle is still in it. Awesome film, but you're right, that first chase scene just nailed it!

Yes, the Terminator action scene is the type of science fiction I'm looking for in my own productions. No stunt coordinator in NY is qualified for action like that.

So, for my next feature, I, Creator 3 - The Singularity, we are bringing in a Hollywood stunt professional / fight choreographer with all the right experience who teaches stunts and fight choreography of that caliber and better to studios and performers around the world to get it right.

The scene in Avatar, when he's chased by the direwolf, yeah that's pretty cool, but not good enough for a top-5 list. You know what is, though? Raiders of the Lost Ark, in the chase through the streets of Cairo.

I just saw The Bourne Legacy. Lot of running in that. And the Bourne series in general.

Gotta throw some more love behind the opening chase scene of Casino Royale- that's one crazy sequence.

At CrackerFunk, I consider Raiders to have one of the best openings in all of cinema, if not the best. I was torn whether to include it on this list, but, tough call, the actual moments where Indy is being chased in the jungle are really brief. I do like your suggestion of the marketplace chase, though. Absolutely put that in the top 10.

At Nick, I'll have to rewatch that one. Bourne III. I love the first movie but the second and third kind of blend together in my head so I can't remember which does what. I like the Desh fight, though. Superb. And yet I can't remember which movie that's in. Haha.
