Tomorrow is the big day - first short in almost a decade!

Well, it's snowing and I am hoping it stop tonight so no one has an excuse not to show up tomorrow!

I'll be shooting my first short in many moons Saturday and Sunday. It's a 5 minute comedic short with four speaking parts, three main actors and a small crew. We are shooting on a Canon 7D and my DP has more than enough experience to carry the day. She was able to convince three guys with union shoot experience to come on board pro-bono. They like her and they like my script, so I am beyond thankful to them.

The most expensive part of tomorrow will be food and drink. Not the equipment we rented (got a killer deal) or the pay for the sound guy and my DP. Nope. Food and drink. it's expensive when you have to feed a crew and twenty extras.

My only fear is that the building we are using will decide that day to just say, forget it. Everyone is telling me not to worry but when you are just on a verbal agreement, hey, it's worrisome.

But we will see what happens. Wish me luck gang. O'll post back how it went.

I remember shooting my first short project!

Good luck, and enjoy it-there's a sense you'll get down the road, always looking back at it with some fondness, regardless of how it turns out-

"You'll always remember your first" :D

I feel like I went to war. My body hasn't been this beat up since, well, my first short film. :)

I have two more scenes to shoot today and then I sleep for a week. You can bet your arse I'll post back here once I am able. Thanks for the encouragement, gang.

One night of solid sleep works wonders. I feel almost human this morning! Today I need to see the chiropractor for my aching back and then I'll see True Grit to get some relaxation in.

Then back home, will post some info here on what went down. Tomorrow we begin the edit.

What amazes me most about the recent experience was that despite shooting for over 15 hours straight, we still didn't get everything we needed that day. And some of what we did get has to be re-shot.

The Canon 7D is am amazing piece of equipment, but it is not without its inherent limitations. Moire being the key factor. It is a BITCH to deal with when it rears its ugly head.

I would have loved to have shot on film. No doubt about it. But the cost made it impossible. As it is, this digital shoot cost twice as much as I had wanted and will likely cost three times as much when all is said and done.

I had help from one of our fellow board members and so my public thanks to him for that. It was greatly appreciated.

We plan a day of reshoots for February. Basically one room we shot in must be redone because of moire and not getting the quality we needed in performances. The latter was my fault. i was rushed. I rushed them. It shows.

The edit we have so far actually works really well, minus the problem areas. Basically, the first half of my short came out as good as, if not better than I had hoped. No it is time to take care of that second half.

Sound is a problem. I have no idea how to sync sound, do a mix and will likely be out of money on that front so will be back here for advice. It's going to be a short film of about 4 minutes in length. Mostly music and dialogue. Hopefully there is a way to make this work.

Anyways... that is my story and I am sticking to it.
