Technology Predictions

Following the pattern of making consumers purchase new libraries of media, here is my prediction:

Allowing for a few more years for 16:9 televisions to completely saturate the market, we will begin to see the new standard for aspect ratio - 2.35:1. Since bars will drive some people nuts, they'll have to have it. Resolution will probably be bumped up to 2K, also.

Any other predictions of what we might see? :(

Actually, CF, 2.35:1 is pretty common in movies and widescreen TV's with that aspect ratio are already available. There is always the next best thing as history has proven. It's just my guess this will be it and we'll get 2K resolution movies by download killing Blu-ray which never really took off anyway.

Yeah, but all those people with 2.35:1 TVs have to look at those annoying bars on the side, when they watch the vast majority of movies, and pretty much all of TV. Either that, or they're dumb, and leave the TV on that mode that stretches the picture out, and that's even more annoying.

:)

The only future i see is us returning to greek theater!
Up to no good china is about to reach 10 buhzillion people, and they'll take dur juhbs!!

cant trust em..

I think we will see more twists & turns to home theater like 'Skype' (multiple video source reunions), further advancements in 3D technologies (I hear the yucks), bigger, lighter, greener viewer screens. Faster entertainment & information delivery systems. Higher-quality video-production for the DIY filmmaker in us all.

Whatever "simple" solution camcorders incorporate into their design to overcome overheating DSLR manufacturers will eventually figure out the same.
(DUH!)

4K everything. The resolution jump is supposed to be the next big push.

Hence Sony's 4K+ Cameras and Canon's.

Televisions will follow, 4K theater projection's already here.

1080's going to be termed obsolete, even though it's just fine.

Can we not take a step back and actually go to the cinema?

I'm hoping everything will come with an anti-glare screen. Sick of ol' squinty eyes in the sunshine.
