Some film questions.

Hey fellers and fellettes. Been looking around at film cameras. Have seen some that I can afford, but on further investigation, I see that developing costs can be a major factor in chooses what format to shoot in. I plan to shoot in B/W mainly, for now. So for the following questions, I'm refering to B/W film stock.

Questions: Longevity? Incept dates?.....Wait thats something different altogether :)

For 2000' of 16mm stock I found a place that will proccess, clean prep, 2.75 hr. RANK transfer@ 24fps mini DV or Beat SP tape for $1600

1. Does this sound like a fair price for the services offered??
2. What is a RANK tranfer/What does that part mean??
3. Does anyone have a place with competitive pricing that they could recommend??

I'm sure I have more questions but don't know what to ask. Please feel free with any suggestions you might have. I plan on shooting shorts for now. Say 5-30 mins. So I think costs can be acceptable if I can keep my shooting to 3:1 or somewhere there-abouts. Thanks in advance!!

HAHA No haven't given up. I did find some of the answers. After further review I really like what I see in super 8. I must admit though, it is a lot of info to take in, at first. Super 8 seems to be a little cheaper but as far as the cameras go: Any recommendations on a model with a crystal sync motor.
And are there any cameras/stock that come in 100'-400'.
I have been reading in the film section but please feel free to asnswer the above questions. Input is always welcomed.

There is a company that converts any camera motor
to a sync motor. They list the conversion at around
$500. The offer and out of the body Crystal Control
Unit, too. They are in Connecticut. The Film Group.

I have the Canon 1014 that was converted before I
bought it and I converted my Beaulieu 4008.
