How can I shoot a POV of my main character looking into the glaring sun?
I tried just shooting the sun itself but it just looks like a white slate.

ND Filters...It is said to NEVER aim a cam into the sun. Put some serious ND filters on ( a whole set ? ) , close the aperture f22 ?? 80 ISO and go from there
And do not look into the viewfinder when aiming the camera at the sun. Use the LCD or a monitor.
Or better yet go auto effect route.. Do u really want to mess up a sensor on your camera?
The cheapest route might be to use a piece of welding glass - stacking cheap ND filters will cause lots of problems with infra-red contamination.

I think he means after effects. If he does, I'd agree. An optical flare on a sky backdrop is really stinking convincing.

Unless you have access to a hot mirror or IRND filters ($$$$).
Also, one of the extremely rare moments when I'll suggest post over in-camera.
This sort of shot was inconsequential with film cameras, but sensors can and will burn out when repeatedly pointed at the sun.
Also, since we're talking viewfinders - don't let your viewfinder point directly at the sun either. The magnifier in the eyepiece will do what it does best (magnify) and burn out the little display inside the eyepiece.
