I haven't seen The Artist yet so I don't really feel qualified to make picks this year.

I've been trying to see all the best picture nominees since they all look great. So far I've only seen
War Horse (Oscar-worthy),
The Descendants (too 'indie' for an Oscar but George Clooney has a shot),
The Help (had all the elements of an Oscar film, but it's moments of levity hold it back for the award. Viola Davis could win, the Oscars love her and not-so-much do they love Meryl Streep enough to give her the golden man),
Moneyball (very entertaining, clever, well executed, but something didn't come together to make it an 'Oscar' film), and
Midnight in Paris (it was an honor just to be nominated, honestly)

You really think it's going to be such a sweep, Nick? That hasn't happened in a while. If you're right we can expect a bunch of blogs about how the Oscars are getting more and more 'outsourced'

Best Picture: The Artist
Actor in a leading role: Jean Dujardin (Would love Gary Oldman to win for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy)
Actress in a leading role: Meryl Streep
Actor in a Supporting Role: Kenneth Branagh (Just because i shot something with him a few weeks back)
Actress in a Supporting Role: Octavia Spencer
Animated Feature Film: Rango
Cinematography: I think the Artist will win, but Tree of Life is probably even better than The Artist

With the exception of K.Bran I think your predictions look pretty good Phil...

Here's a video that I made based on my predictions for tomorrow night!

I'm one of those. But I entered the pool at work using your
predictions - 63 people each putting in $10, winner takes all.
Ties split the $600.

The only reason I even mention it is because my job is followspot
(or as you Brits call it, dome) operator for the Oscars.

I remember you saying that from last year but that still makes my jaw drop every time I hear it...

Good luck!

Best Film - Money Ball

If this prediction comes true I shall both eat my hat and buy your ebook ;)

In other news: For those of you who aren't or can't watch the Oscars tonight but still want to know what's going on, please tune in to my Live Blog on The Clapper Bored's website!

Just keep it open as a tab and it'll update itself with all the latest news and opinion. I, like the rest of the world, will also be on Twitter most of the night.

Fun, fun, fun!

I've probably watched the Oscars three times in my entire life. Not sure why, but I'm in the mood to watch them tonight. So, I'll toss my hat in the ring. I've not seen many of the movies that I would've needed to see to make legit predictions, but fear not -- when in doubt, I used the highly-scientific method of watching a trailer!

If I don't make a prediction, it's because even my trailer-method isn't enough to muster a guess. By the way, I agree with Nick that there will be somewhat of a sweep; I just don't agree on which movie will be doing the clean-up. The Oscars are, after all, a giant circle-jerk, and "Hugo" is the most masturbatory movie ever made. :P

Best Film: Hugo
Best Director: Scorcese
Best Original Screenplay: Midnight in Paris
Best Adapted Screenplay: Moneyball
Best Actor: Gary Oldman
Best Actress: Michelle Williams
Best Supporting Actor: Christopher Plummer
Best Supporting Actress: Berenice Bejo
Best Animated Film: Rango
Best Cinematography: The Tree of Life
Best Visual Effects: Rise of the Planet of the Apes
Best Original Score: The Artist
Best Film Editing: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Best Art Direction: Hugo
Best Costume Design: Hugo
Best Sound Editing: Drive
Best Sound Mixing: Transformers 3

Andy Serkis was robbed!!!

:D

I prefer to think of the Oscars as a celebration of film and the industry...not that there's anything wrong with circle jerks.

I'd make predictions, but I also haven't seen all of the candidates to make legit choices.

@Cracker: Despite the fact that your belief that Hugo is going to win Best Film is utter madness, I've changed my mind and think that Hugo is going to take Art Direction (bringing The Artist's meagre haul down to 8).

Ill say once again that even though the Oscars are not exactly the ultimate statement or a bible to go by, they do serve a good purpose. They make people realize why the handful of nominations are there compared to other movies. It makes people realize the difference between an entertaining/fun movie and one that is technically proficient and has some sort of message/analysis/study/meaning and could possibly be entertaining and fun as well.

It's absolutely fine if you do not care about the Oscars or are simply in the movie making business for money. Nothing wrong with that.

But a lot of people call the Oscars a worthless event. I think they serve a good purpose and should not be called that.

Great point, Ernest. That being said, I'm logging-off. My seldom-used TV is in another room, and I'm late for the show. Hope I haven't missed anything too fun.

P.S. -- Clapper, I'll wager a dollar that I accurately predicted more winners than you! Not a pound, cuz that's fake money. It's gotta be a dollar! :P

I like Crystal's quips about Kodak's bankruptsy. Oh the irony of it.

From what I've heard, apart from mismanagenment, one of the key problems Kodak has faced is Hollywood's abandonment of Kodak film.

Not pointing fingers. The times they are a changin'.

But, yeah...worth acknowledging.
