editing Poor video quality while moving, help!

So I am using a Sony DCR-TRV25 mini DV. I have tried streaming via firewire, burning directly to a dvd recorder via s-video, and I think I noticed it when playing on a small HD tv. Why does this image look like this when the video is in motion? It is on a Sony premium tape, and I think it was new, but it was in the camcorder when I received it off ebay. Is this the result of needing the head cleaned? Thank you.

Hmm, well I will definitely upload a clip when I get this straightened out. I will be testing different software to see if i can get a good capture. Does cs3 or premier come in a demo version that will let me capture without watermarks and such?

YIPEEE! I got it! So I decided to turn off Vista Aero and change my wallpaper to some small file size and presto! I just used the Windows Photo Gallery that popped up to capture and it worked great. So if anyone has this problem, turn OFF Aero! The quality looks great even with interlaced, compared to what I was getting. Although its getting a bit late, 4:35am here, so I may have to postpone an upload, but dont worry, I will later. Thanks for all the help guys! Wheat, thanks for the vids and pointing out the dvd recorder issue. Now I can't wait to test an actual deinterlaced video, especially if the regular looks this good.

A five minute video is now being uploaded to youtube. Looks like its going to take a sweet 2 hours to finish, thanks to my connection. Hopefully the quality comes out good when its finished. Its just a few shots around the house, zooming on trees, plants and whatnot.

Two hours to upload a few shots? Good Lord, man! How do you watch porn?

Ahem, uhh, excuse me, I didn't mean to say that, umm, I don't do that kind of stuff. Stop judging me!!!

ROC needs to stop shooting that stupid vampire movie, dammit. I need someone else to crack stupid jokes with.

Alrighty, I will give handbrake a try. I might wait till wednesday though, because I should be getting real high speed finally! Currently running through my cell phone.

Welp, I ended up downloading Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum HD 10.0 trial. Which is AMAZING! So I put my little video together of me shooting some clips in the yard at random things, and added my brother at the end from a previous recording. I also loaded it to youtube which you can find here:

And im not sure why, but it boxed around my video? I used the .mp4 output as well. I darkened the brightness just a bit throughout the whole thing also. As a side note, I used Vegas to capture the yard parts, which went very well, and it rendered great without hiccups.

Well that looks pretty dang good. Looks like your over the hurdle and getting a decent quality.

You discovered the trick of "zooming" in to blur the background. This is how you fake a Shallow Depth Of Field look. You get far away from the subject, and zoom in to frame as you desire. Then you shoot. This works great.

You need to LOCK the exposure on the camera. Its automatically changing when you move to brighter \ darker areas.

Underexposed WITH detail, is better than BLOW OUT. Try using the "exposure" or what ever the effect is called in Vegas to increase the overall brightness of your footage WITHOUT blowing the whites.. use the "scopes" to make sure you stay under 100% or what ever it is in vegas..

For your output renders check the final output size, I dont know vegas, Im sure someone here can tell you where you went off on the output.

Thanks for the reply, I will have to try locking the exposure. I didn't think about that when it was jumping around from bright to dark. For the output size, I think I figured that out. My last scene is 4:3 while the rest was 16:9, so I think it forced the whole video in 4:3 making my 16:9 look small. I figured out how to crop the last scene so its the same size, so I don't think I should run into that again...Unless I forget :)
