Police Uniform

This has got to be a common thing, but I can't find a thread on it.
Does anyone here have a guide for putting together a cheap police uniform?

I talked to my cop friend and his radio is like $5,000.
I don't want to borrow that for a shoot

I suppose that works if I hire a designer first. that is a whole process, people often disappoint in my experience. But i'll do what i have to .

And people sometimes come through. Has that never happened to you?
Is that way you are a "glass-half-empty" person?

Why can YOU design it?

A silhouette of a couple of trees or buildings or a star, the word "Police",
maybe the name of the town or initials like "MD Police".

Making a movie is "a whole process". Every single aspect of it. It's
good to hear that you will do what you have to do. So get started
on that design. Or ask someone. Risk the disappointment to find
the right person.

Well I sent an email to the one dude like you suggested, hopefully I can use his patch. But yeah my alternative idea is just to use the words police and an outline of the state.

I'm not sure if I would have made a custom patch without your suggestion, i probably would have used two separate patches and it wouldn't look as nice. thanks for the idea.

I also got a reference to http://www.epolicesupply.com that will make custom badges. So maybe this will all be over soon, finally. I'll have my patch and badge

The guy I emailed was great, he said I only need the regular license. And if it gives me any trouble to consider the email he sent as his permission to use the badge in my film and future films I create.

Thanks rik. Sometimes I get a mental block and need a little push, this forum is great for that.

Find someone who's a security guard. Shirt and trousers are all generic, the biggies are going to be kevlar vest, realistic shoes (NEVER shiny, that can give away your position), and an equipped Sam Brown (the web belt can weigh close to 30 pounds loaded). Ever thought of just giving him blue jeans, sneakers, a tactical holster and a Polo shirt that says "SHERIFF" (or "POLICE") in big bold letters across the back? That's what half of them wear any more. Or just borrow something from a retired cop.

I'm a 34" waist, medium shirt... but I'm 3000 miles away.

Since Maxsdad bumped this I'm curious:

It was more than a year ago that you started this thread and
almost three months since your last post about this. In that
time have you made any progress on a police uniform?

Yeah i have a full uniform now!
but i was kind of slow so now i need to buy a new shirt with long sleeves instead of short sleeves.

I didn't take a picture yet of me in it but i'll be going as a cop to a private party on halloween.

I rented a uniform for a shoot in NYC. It actually came with a permit to have it (avoid any uncomfortable impersonating an officer charges). Maybe I overpaid, but cops came by, we showed the permit and were OK. I believe the pair of uniforms came to 300. The prop guns were awful though.
