One Min Short Sad Scene - Wheatgrinders Monthly IT Challenge Submission and Chat Thread For February 2011


Here is the time line in review:

  1. "Challenge Area" Announced:
    On the FIRST Monday in February Ill tell everyone what the "Challenge Area" will be (see below) DONE
  2. Suggestion Box Open:
    From that Monday through Thursday everyone suggests specific challenges that support the main focus DONE
  3. Suggestion Box Closed:
    On Friday I gather up all the ideas that meet my strict yet completely arbitrary criteria and I set up a poll DONE
  4. Vote:
    Voting over the weekend. DONE
  5. Challenge Details Announced:
    On the 2nd Monday in February the challenge is announced. DONE

  6. Upload The Movies:
    Everyone, and I mean everyone, even if you didn't vote, or hate circus midgets, has until 11:59 PM on the Sunday before the the first Monday in March to upload

directing/acting a 1 scene, very sad, story, in under a minute.


Thats it, everything else is left to your interpretation.

The 1st place prize is nada, 2nd place prize is zilch and 3rd place gets nothin.
There are NO rules, ignore the challenge details if you want, though I reserve the right, and encourage others, to type in all caps..

crap i got to get on this...

uh... does there have to be any words what so ever...

i have this great idea... but i dont need words to do it... (i just need some one with talent to make the video hahahhahahahaha)

dang it... and i work for the next few days... but dang it... i will try ...

so is this due on eastern central or pacific time... because its already friday here hahahahah ... so i would like to make sure i got enough time hahahahah

well... that is proving harder than i thought to get the whole story in...

running at about 1:30... each take... i wanted a single shot situation... like in a room ...

it was even harder to do it with out words hahahah... went from doing 6 shots ... of a room (using a jib to pan around) going in and out of the room... then the final shot showing what was the cause of the problem... and realized that would either

a) all have to sped up hahahahahahah
b) only get one or two shots in the room and hope there is enough for the audience to grasp the concept... ahhahahahahahaha
c) do it with words and start from scratch...

and fortunately... i have the whole day to do what ever i want... unfortunately... i am running out of day time hahahahahahahah

so ... i am almost giving up on this.. i think i might just do a few single shot takes of the same story being told by a sad person... and fortunately this is a touchy subject for me so its easy to cry on que hahahahah unfortunately i am an ugly mother fucker hahahahahaha so i really am feeling like this is a waste of yalls time hahahahahahahah

so... anyone got any last minute suggestions... while i edit this together and see if i can pull any of this out of my ass...

its going to be very poorly done... because i have no one to operate the camera hahahahaha wife and kid are busy... hahahah so i am a one man show for this one... and i dont have a ring light... hahahaha so its not going to be anywhere near as good as yours indiebudget...

anyone hahahaha

this is an awesome test of editing skills... what to get rid of and what to keep...

you guys did a million times better than my piece of crap is turning out...

i am going to go ahead and congratulate you guys WOW... this is stupid hard to portray your feelings in under a min... DAMN IT hahahahahahaha

oh yeah... and cut me some slack... because this final video was started and finished all in 4 hours... sorry... but i only heard about this recently... and i had to change everything up completely...

some one else needs to throw up a vid here... dont let me get third place due to technicality... there have got to be some other videos out there guys...

you got 6 hours... if i can adlib some crap together you guys can def get some good videos in here...

seriously though... anyone got pointers for me... on how to adress this with less than a minute...

i had a really hard time figuring out what is the meat of the story and what was fluff...

i am thinking about posting in a another thread the full 2 minutes and asking you guys to tell me what i should have or shouldnt have used... because this was what i was really having trouble with...
 
WAIT!!! I work at night so I'm always a half day ahead or behind..... I'll post in a sec and keep in mind I filmed this in 30 seconds after a 13.5 hour day.
 
Well this will sure let you down. Here I am at 6 am after a 13 hour day. Yes I know its crappy but I want an E for Euphimism. Did I spell that right? Also, I was trying to adapt a Hemingway short, but I failed.:no:

just a thought... i know the assumption is there... that the reason why the baby shows were never worn...

but what if you were to start saying why... and then cut your self off... just a thought...

just saying ... what if you were to have said... yeah it has a description... it says for sale baby shoes never worn... [then the puzzled sad face] wait... never bor[trails off into whispers ... more of a depressed reaction] yeah lets go ahead and go to toys r us...

does that sound like it would help jerk the audience back down some? just a thought.

Yea, I think it would help. But I was tired and this was a last second improv. I'm glad you got it though. :)
