Metal Bands

Metal in the broadest terms! What are your favorite hardcore, metalcore, screamo, heavy metal, death metal, swedish metal, power metal, progressive metal, thrash metal bands!?

Personally I listen to mainly "Christian" metal and have currently I've been slightly stuck on the band "Memphis May Fire" mostly because they sound pretty good, but also because I don't have a whole lot of other bands to add to my library at the moment. I'm a physical CD kind of guy myself.

But I've also enjoyed bands like Killswitch Engage, Soilwork, Dream Theather just to name a few. Discuss. :D

Didn't even know there was such a thing as Christian Metal. I like to vary, but I'm pretty rooted in Prog Rock/Metal, and 90s rock.

I usually listen to stuff like Tool, Chevelle, Deftones, Soundgarden, Dream Theater, Black Sabbath, Jane's Addiction, A Perfect Circle,Alice in Chains, Nine Inch Nails, Rise Against, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Smashing Pumpkins. And of course, Metallica, Beatles, etc.

For metal bands i only like the oldskool stuff that i grew up with...
Iron Maiden
Testement
Pantera
Quiet Riot
Helloween
GWAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!lol
But these days im into a wide range to punk to surf music
Mustard Plug
The Ghastly Ones
Dick Dale
Tiger Army
Man or Astroman
Phantom Surfers
Im blanking on other but you get the idea...
But i cant forget Dropkick Murphies and The Flogging Mollys!!!!!

There is indeed! Mostly new bands such as Underoath, The Devil Wears Prada, War of Ages, For Today, Oh Sleeper, Haste the Day, August Burns Red, As I Lay Dying, Disciple, Demon Hunter, Norma Jean, Disciple, Living Sacrifice, Pillar, Zao, Becoming the Archetype, Blessthefall, Gwen Stacy, We Came As Romans, and many many more.

Metal isn't my favorite genre, but I do listen to a little bit of every kind of music. These days I've been listening to Alcest, Opeth, Isis, Jesu, Pelican, Sleep as far as metal goes. Nice Ghastly Ones nod, Psychosis! Great stuff, that surf rock (Dick Dale is AMAZING live). Never kept up with the Christian Metal scene, but when I was in high school I loved Saviour Machine. They were somewhere inbetween, say, Queensryche and Iron Maiden, both of whom I really dug at the time.

Also, recently I saw Swans live (one of my favorite bands ever). I don't think I'd call them metal of any flavour, but I've never been to a show that was louder, heavier or more intense. Their live albums tend to be pretty awesome, I'd recommend Swans Are Dead, and Feel Good Now, for starters!

I'm really old school; but then, I'm an old fart. Metal is okay, but I just like to rock really hard.

Deep Purple
Led Zeppelin
The Who
Cream
MC5 (Kick out the jams, motherf****rs!!!)
Jimi Hendrix
Mountain

Special Mention:
Iron Butterfly
Blue Cheer
Vanilla Fudge
Nektar
Robin Trower

I did get into later bands like:

Guns n’ Roses
Alice in Chains
Pearl Jam
Stone Temple Pilots
Tool
Nirvana
Living Colour

All of the metal I like can be traced back to Black Sabbath, which as a kid I listened to at potentially unhealthy levels. I'm a big fan of Mastodon, Baroness, and Kyuss, and some depressing doom metal, but my favorite is probably stoner sludge stuff. I am wholeheartedly convinced that Dopethrone is one of the greatest albums of all time.

Is MONSTER MAGNET considered metal? Or are they more grunge? They kinda remind me of Black Sabbath with more tripped out sounds.

I recently came across MASTODON and they are really good.

For heavy intense "metal" I like a lot of Mike Patton's projects - Mr. Bungle, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Fantomas...

And I just saw a live show with a band called Smooth Sailing out of Seattle that was really intense.

I got into metal looonnnggg after one probably should get into metal, but a lot of the bands here are the ones I listen to now.

Pantera, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots(eh, not metal), Slipknot, Hatebreed, Deftones, Nine Inch Nails, Suffocation, Megadeth, Disturbed. Just missed Mushroomhead when they were in my area, possibly going to take a friend up on an invitation to see Tracii Gunns.

...and then there was Tool...
