Really? Then why is there no conversation going on? What a funny coincidence, this record-high happened shortly after I recently started prolling this place.

Where are the newbs asking for advice on which camera to buy? Why do I only see old regulars comment maybe once per week nowadays, when these same people used to comment every day? What the fuck happened to this place?

I'm making a concerted effort to drive more traffic back to this website and I'm not getting much support. I'm trying to get conversations started. Where are the people who want to have conversations? What, are you watching from afar because you think it's fun to see the conflict between me and one or two particular people, but you don't want to get involved, so you stay silent?

Open your fucking mouths people, get involved in the conversation! Crack jokes. Have fun. Share links that you saw on FB. Make this your new FB. Share ideas and add constructive critique to those who are doing the same. This website is fucking meaningless if the people who visit it don't make contributions.

Indietalk is not a website that's meant to be read. You're supposed to comment!

I've backed off in part because of you, CF. I love offering help but I'm
not interested in cracking jokes or sharing links. Not my style. For a
while I was watching from afar your conflicts with Sweetie and APE but
then I stopped reading those. I hope you know that I admire you and
what you did with your movie. I'm rooting for you on your next one.

I appreciate your enthusiasm, but the forum now looks like the "Cracker
Funk" soapbox. I'm still around (kinda busy now directing my first web
series) and will still offer help and advice when the mood hits me.
 
I'm pretty sure this question has been asked before.
This is a redundant thread disturbing the perfect tranquility of our forum.

When I'm done with this place, there will never be a redundant thread again.

Sorry, I did not intend this thread to be derogatory in any way. My hope is that we, any active members who care to do so, might find a way to get the newbs back here, cuz to me that's an important component to the success of this forum and everyone who takes part.

Ah, I see your point. I'm not trying to make it my soapbox, I'm trying to get people more active in participating. I don't know how to do that, so I've been trying lots of different things.

And for the record, I can't stand the conflicts you mentioned. I've never enjoyed it, not one bit. I could see how some might think I do, especially because of the "Let's Make it Personal" thread I created. But really, my intent with that thread was to bring the conflict to a head. Instead of letting it linger in numerous threads, I thought maybe I should just push the big red button and see what happens.

Here's the best part -- I think the long-standing conflict between APE and I might finally be behind us. At the core of this conflict has been one central issue that he and I have never been able to agree upon. But I think we just found common ground. Right now, there are two active threads in which he and I are having a good conversation. In one, he's offered me some really great foley advice, and in another, he and I are discussing the possibility of finding ways to get more audio-minded people on this forum. Neither of us has offered an idea yet, but we're on the same page and not letting our past conflict get in the way of positive discussion.

Did our conflict resolution happen because of that thread I started? I have no idea. Maybe it did, or maybe it was actually delayed because of it. Either way, I see a positive future relationship between APE and I.

Thanks for the encouragement on my project, and thanks for the honesty regarding this place feeling like I'm on a soapbox. I don't want that, so I'm glad someone pointed it out.

By the way, I actually do have a method I'm soon to employ that I hope might get more newbs back to this website. It's taking me longer than I originally planned. I've never created a web-series before, but I'm getting there.

"Why Not Me? Tiny-Budget Filmmaking 101" will be online soon, most likely this week. :)
 
There are some changes coming including a new platform (much more social) it just isn't going to happen over night. It's like moving a building off its foundation but only one block away and takes critical prep.

Cracker Funk is an acquired taste. Like the durian fruit. He's a good dude though even if he does smell like rotten cheese. Or funky cheese, as it were. ;)

Seriously, he has the best of intentions.
 
Indietalk isn't dead.

But I am a member of other specifically dedicated audio forums that are relatively more active than this one, and it's just not the same feeling that I get from this forum.

Indietalk is like your friendly neighborhood coffee shop that gives you a newspaper for free and knows that you like extra vanilla flavor in your latte.

All other forums are like Starbucks. You know, poor service that invariably misspells your name on your cup.

And there are sooooooooooooooooooooo many "know-it-alls" on the other forums...

Indietalk just has genuine people and they are more than willing to help.

There are some professionals on here, too... :)

To be honest, I spend a lot more time on Reddit nowadays because the information is more immediate.

I know we're supposed to have a new platform coming, and I hope it's great, but has the site creator considered just starting an indietalk subreddit?
 
I love this site and drop by almost everyday. I really think that IT needs a live chat lounge, so some of the banter can come & go in real-time.

Whenever I see forum fight break out, I tend to step away for a while.

The Internet has changed. If there is no life to your site, it can be seen as static or stale, and on the other end of the spectrum, it can be seen as trollish or distracting. The answer is a good balance between social engagement and information. A lot of the time, it comes down to respect and knowing boundaries, but humor is definitely not a problem when delivered right. There's that, or boring posts that die. Today, it's all about activity.
