archived-videos "How to Be More Average" spoof shot on 8mm

Hi!

I wrote/directed this 1950s education film spoof recently. It was shot on Kodak Ektachrome 8mm on an old canon Canon 1014 xl-s. I designed it all myself for around $100AUS, which mainly went on paint and the odd costume. We telecined the film ourselves too using an old 8mm projector and a Sony EX3.

Nice job with the costumes, music, sound and over all educational film style –pretty funny too.
Have you tried it in Black and White or making a retro/technicolor looking intro?

Pity 'bout those shadows in the studio scenes, but it's still a solid, funny watch. :cool:

Thanks! Yeah i tried it in black and white... which it really should be for authenticities sake but i just love colour too much, it's kind of my thing. So i took some artistic liberty there. A technicolour intro would have been cool, now you mention it, i have no idea why it ended up in B&W. :)

Thanks, yeah the shadows are a pity... but it was a first year film school project so we just put it in the "learn from it box"... there are a lot of things in that box, haha.

The footage looks great. Nice capture, exposure and colors. I love 8.

Thanks, i'll pass that on to the DP... to his credit there wasn't a single shot that came back under or overexposed and it was his first time shooting film. I love 8 too, i wish it were easier to get developed in Australia though :(
