good camera for about 1000

I find it interesting that even when you ask for recommendations that
are NOT a DSLR you get DSLR suggestions. I't difficult to get the info
you want when people are totally sold on what they like and use, isn't it?

Nice to see a few people answered.

I own the JVC GY-HM710U and the smaller GY-HM100U. I have used both
for feature length movies and broadcast television (American Idol, Pawn Stars,
The Glee Project and The Amazing Race). Those would be my recommendations.

For the add ons to your camera: ebay is your friend. :)

Good luck, whatever you decide to do.

As for video cameras: I really can't give a recommendation. I bought a T3i.:)

wow ok, no, instead of wasting my money on a bunch add ons, i want to save up my money and buy something that feels a little more professional.
I went to go visit some film schools this summer and they said they dont like to use dslrs and believe they are a waste of money. BUT i do believe my t2i was a good starter camera

I dont see that buying a t2i is/was wasting your money..im going to buy the t3i which is the same camera. I need a duel purpose camera. I need to take digital photo classes (and they require a dslr) to enhance my photo skills....but my end goal is film directing and cinamatography, so i need also a camera to learn how to shoot video and also take a few more advance video classes before i start my BA classes (Most schools usually have their own equipment they can lend you for class projects anyway). So as a starter camera to get confortable shooting video and production elements its a great idea. Another reason is that its not the camera that matters to be honest...in my into to videoagraphy class my professor explained that ALMOST any camera that shoot digital video will do, its the lighting and sound that matters. Everything else can be compensated in editing/postproduction and also preparing and script writing ahead of time/preproduction. LIGHTING! LIGHTING! LIGHTING! and sound.
Last point, i dont know about you but i dont have 5 grand to put down to buy a camera! Even with tuition the cameras they prob. are talking about are professional cameras and well...im not a professional...yet!
my 2 cents at least

I think this is the camera we talked about in class..(but dont hold me to that)
