Films about making a film

I really like to watch films that are about making a film... Like biography such as "Ed Wood" "Chaplin" etc...

Anyone knows good films about making a film? 0 I can't wait to see HITCHCOCK as well :)

Films I have already watched:

Ed Wood - Biography by Tim Burton with Johnny Depp, about Ed Wood who was named the worst director - My favorite
Cinema Paradiso - Italian film about a boy who grows up in a cinema and becomes a film maker... Well you have to watch it, bit long but that film me almost cry lol
Chaplin - Bography about Charles Chaplin with Robert Downey Jr
Be Kind Rewind - Comedy with Jack Black... two idiots try to re-make iconic films...
Living in Oblivion - a director whos film wasn't going well and had bad dreams about it - we all been there
Shadow of the Vampire - about a director who hires a real dracula for his film and starts to kills the crew

any other suggestions? :)

Good list above me.

For better or for worse... I made one. Called The Haunted Movie.

Story?

Jack Ripley with no money and questionable talent, makes a movie about a Scream Queen, Lucy Fear who is about to open the doors of her newest haunted house, a million dollar electronic extravaganza inside a 120,000 square foot building built in 1875. The building is known to be haunted. She hires commercial videographer to set up 20 cameras throughout her 'haunt' to capture the opening premiere (for use as advertising) where 4,571 people will enter and never exit.

You can learn a lot from a bad made movie. This was a very badly made movie, (with a great, non-professional cast -- the cast was awesome). Fantastic sets -- some very elaborate. But script was poorly written and the movie had a dumb director - that would be me. Absolutely no budget, (I still am in debt). You can learn a lot from a bad movie, like, what not to do. I learned a lot.

But some people liked it. The editing was alright... Hahahahaha. Bit off more than I can chew back in 2002 & 2004.

Still have a garage full of props, DVDs and accumulated 'stuff'. I thought it was a good idea at the time. Now I spend more time on the writing before I jump into a project. Unfortunately, these days I have less $$$$ for a budgeting another movie. One of these days I will get the 96 minute, The Haunted Movie up on the Internet for world wide perusal. For better or worse.

LDS. My point was... you should make your own movie about making a movie... get YOUR ideas out there. Good or bad. Make something. Life is too short to just sit back and watch.

The Artist : The times, they are a-changin'

My Week With Marilyn : Marilyn Monroe drives Sir Lawrence Olivier bonkers

The Final Cut : Robin Williams is an editor... of memories.

Blow Out : John Travolta plays Alcove Audio who (maybe?) has caught a murder on his recorder. (Story nicked straight from Blow Up, about a photographer)

A Star Is Born : Judy Garland is awesome.

Sunset Boulevard : Ready for a closeup?

The Truman Show : Should have been a tv miniseries, but oh well :)

There's a few to get started with. Need more? :hmm:

Best (narrative) movie ever about making movies, IMHO: The Stunt Man. Not a realistic portrayal of the technical process, but it absolutely nails the art of it. I used to gather my casts together for a screening of it before shooting my own films.

Runners-up, in no particular order:

Bowfinger (really hits home for a low-budget, guerrilla-style filmmaker)

The Player (an oh-so-cynical look at the studio process...and truer than ever)

State and Main (William H. Macy as the director, Philip Seymour Hoffman as the screenwriter, Alec Baldwin as the star, and David Mamet behind it all -- hilarious and biting)

2001 mentions two of my favorites “The Stunt Man” and “State and Main”

Boogie Nights
All That Jazz
The Big Picture
8 1/2 and Stardust Memories
Singin’ in the Rain

Zack & Miri Make a Porno : Trailer

Orgasmo : Trailer

Boogie Nights : Trailer

Bow-chikka-bow-wow :bag:

ack; beaten with Boogie Nights. :abduct:

Love the suggestions above.

Mullholland Drive. One of my favorites. And I think a favorite of many.

What Just Happened. I'm afraid people just haven't seen this one, or maybe they just don't like it. But I don't know why. I like it quite a bit. Smart and eye opening, if its portrayal is true-to-life. You really feel for De Niro's character.

American Movie. Pretty widely Acclaimed. Tomatometer gives it a 94%. I finally saw it, but I have to say it's rather grim.
