Favourite score?

Tonight on the train listening to my epic soundtrack collection I was thinking about some of the music and how it's shaped my opinion if the film and my opinion on films in general. So as a random off topic thing I thought I would ask what ITers Favourite scores were and why and if they've shaped some of their views.

I can't decide on one Favourite, but it is a collection of Dark Knight, How to Train your Dragon, The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe, Pirates of the Carribean, Bourne, LOTR/The Hobbit and Requim for a Dream.

What I gather from this is that I like Hans Zimmer and John Powell :P

Dark knight, pirates, Bourne and LOTR/The Hobbit soundtracks especially make me relive the film, the others not quite so much. I particularly love a building soundtrack, like in Dark Knight, and violins and hard hitting drums are definitely loved.

Requim for a Dream is strange for me because I heard the score before the film (and I still haven't seen it...) but I never would have guessed its subject matter in its epic music alone.

What I get out of this is reliving the film lots of times without having to sit through the boring bits, and more easily being able to pause 'the story' midway without being annoying. Because some of these have drawn me in so much to the actual film, it has inspired my visions for future films to have similar elements as to those of the cool films listed above.

Bonus question: Favourite song in a film? For me, Skyfall from Skyfall and 'I'll make a man out of you' from Mulan :D

Disclaimer: if there is a thread like this already, I apologize!

I love way too many of them. Badalamenti's City of Lost Children. Elfman's Edward Scissorhands (most Elfman, really). Shore's Lord of the Rings (his work with Cronenberg is also really awesome). Morricone's The Mission. Williams' Schindler's List (though Star Wars and Indiana Jones certainly were a big part of my growing up. Or as far as I managed to grow up). Vangelis' Blade Runner. Kamen's Robin Hood. More recently, James Newton Howard's Hunger Games was really great.

But the two that stand out for me as not necessarily the best scores, but my absolute favorite are Goblin's Susperia score and Tangerine Dream's Legend score. I probably would still love film music, but I can definitely say that I wouldn't have started making film music without those two. The Legend score in particular. Interesting to note that Ridley Scott hated it, and prefered the original Jerry Goldsmith score, which is nice, but sort of standard fare (and a couple scenes jarringly do not fit). I enjoy it, but if I had seen that first I'm not sure I would have the same attachment to the movie and music that I do now.

Can't have too many threads like this! And the Pirates scores are really excellent stuff. I'm not sure I have a favorite song from a film, but I'll think about it. Maybe "Burn" by the Cure from The Crow. Wasn't the biggest fan of the movie (huge fan of the comic), but that song really got it, and was everything I loved about the Cure at the time.

Favorite song in a film might have to be The Doors, The End, in Apocalypse Now.

I don't know what The favorite soundtrack would be, but I like the Solaris (2002) soundtrack an awful lot.

It might have been Epic's soundtrack, if, like the teaser trailers suggested, it had featured music from Snow Patrol's Hundred Million Suns, which for me might be my all time favorite album at this time. But apparently that was just to tease, and those songs apparently are not on the soundtrack.

Basil Poledouris did two of my fave soundtracks - Conan the Barbarian and Starship Troopers.

The Fountain soundtrack by Clint Mansell is also awesome.

.

There are many real classic score that I enjoy.. As far as favourites? I'm not really sure. I really enjoy LOTR and The Hobbit, as well as Harry Potter and TDK.

But, there's all sorts of scores that I like - I've got the score from Beasts of the Southern Wild, and even Nim's Island and other movies floating around on my computer. I love the score from Wall-E, and in fact many Disney and Pixar films. Toy Story would have to be one of my favourite Disney scores I think.

When we're talking song from a movie, are we talking song written for a movie, or song simply placed in a movie? I really enjoyed the use of The Wolves by Bon Iver at the end of Place Beyond the Pines. In terms of songs written specifically for a movie, I'd have to say just about any Disney song/movie combination - certainly 'I'll Make a Man Out of You' from Mulan, but then almost all of the songs from Aladdin and The Lion King as well, The Little Mermaid, Toy Story etc.
Brother Bear contains many songs that simply get stuck in my head all the time, even though I haven't seen the movie in years.

Love STARSHIP TROOPERS and LEGEND, as mentioned, above. I'm a fan of Tangerine Dream movie soundtracks, as you can see.

I really like the score to CAT PEOPLE by Giorgio Moroder. This scene - the leopard tree dream sequeing to the jogging chase is just magic for me:

Also like PHANTASM (Fred Myrow/Malcolm Seagrave), ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK (Carpenter) and surprisingly the music to ESCAPE FROM LA, which is a much better soundtrack than it is a movie, John Murphy's 28 WEEKS LATER (yes, the sequel score tops the original) and Zimmer's INCEPTION, to name a few.

I like most any score by Williams, Goldsmith, Elfman, Horner. Right now, I'm waiting for 3 CDs, from Amazon: Elmer Bernstein's SATURN 3 (a rare 2,500 unit release), X-MEN: FIRST CLASS (Henry Jackman) and the new score to OBLIVION (Anthony Gonzalez/Joseph Trapanese).

This version of Magneto's theme, starting at the 2:17 mark.

Fave songs? Two that I really like are Duran Duran's "A View To A Kill" and Chris Cornelius' "You Know My Name," from CASINO ROYALE.

Anything by Clint Mansell or Alan Silvestri. Moon is the most recent one I can think of that I love. Also a great science fiction film as well.

I love so many different composers but if I had to pick a single score off the top of my head, The Fountain by Mansell comes to mind at the moment.

I like the score in the Underworld series.

Live And Let Die is pretty cool. Love the score in the great boat chase when the wedding cake got hit and the sherriff's car fell apart chasing that "one man demolition team."

Midnight in Paris is absolutely genius!

I love remix of Gnossienne no1 in Violent cop

Casablanca

Most of Moricone.

Jackie Chan when he scores/sings in his own movies.

Bruce Lee Enter the dragon.

Skyfall was cool.

Hobbit had cool songs.

Ah,too many to remember
