Favourite Improv/Musical Comedians?

Okay, I'll say it.

"We could all use a laugh"

So, who are your favourite Improv/Musical Comedians? (If you like them at all)

It's an evergrowing style, that I can't get enough of as of late. However, be it Indietalk members are vast, and worldwide, I'm hoping to discover a wealth of talent, that perhaps I wouldn't have.

Who are your favourites?

Ofcourse, Tim Minchin.

Just moments ago, I discovered Reggie Watts. How was I note aware of this man? (Skip to 00:50)

The Fast Show had an awesome segment called Jazz Club.

Here's a best-of compilation, including my fave - Jackson "Jefferey" Jackson.

Schmokin'!

The Fast show! I haven't seen this in so long.

"You can't run sidewaaays. You can't run from the law. NICE "

The presenter (Whose name escapes me) never ages. He looks exactly the same.

Does really old school stuff count?

How about Victor Borge?

How about Tom Lehrer

Tom Lehrer is one of the voices of my youth (weirdly :P )

Currently into Bo Burnham...

Nice one with Tim Lehrer. That reminded me of a special that Jim Morris, the American President impersanator, did in the 80's starring his version of Reagan. It was about an hour long, and had so many awesome hilarious songs in it. Forgot the name of the show.

In with Flight of the Conchords:

So many classics, even the live stuff.

Okay, I'm gonna be that loser who lists the most obvious choices, you kno, the ones that everybody already knows. But I'm going to defend my complete lack of originality by saying that everybody knows them for a reason. :) Plus, maybe they'll be new to somebody.

Zensteve, good call with Flight of the Conchords. "Ladies of the World" and "The Humans are Dead" are pretty sweet, but I don't think you can beat this classic:

I'm a big fan of DVDA. This song is originally from "Orgazmo", but it's been featured, to hilarious effects, on "South Park". The lyrics are pretty funny themselves, but the visuals you see in the "South Park" montage for this song really take it to that other level. I'd post a link to the "South Park" video, but that wouldn't be fair to our brothers across the pond.

Same guys, different movie:

Okay, I know I'm not exactly going out on a limb here, but any list like this would be remiss without the boys from SNL. They've had a number of funny ones, but D-in-a-B just can't be beat:

The follow-up ain't nothing to shake a stick at, either (warning: R-rated):

And my favorite from the Lonely Boys:

And while we're on SNL, remember when Dana Carvey used to be funny?

And we gotta have Tenacious D! What I like about Tenacious D is that they seem intent in not just creating some funny stuff, but really making good music. This song's kinda awesome. I'm convinced the whole song is about a jam session. I can't tell you how many jam sessions I've had in which we totally thought we had created the BEST SONG EVER, yet none of us could remember how it went.

HOWEVER, though all of the musical comedians everyone has listed have been rather funny, not ONE has been even slightly improv. This guy actually does music, and improv, at the same time, and he's kinda funny:

favourite Improv

Having a hard time with this part... an actual improv comedian.

The US & British versions of "Who's Line Is It Anyway" is pretty good telly.

The group "Improv Everywhere" is phenomenol, but very alternative.

"Upright Citizen Brigade" - not a huge fan, but they have funny spots.

All of these are groups, though. I cannot think of a single stand-alone improv comic. Sure, there are many standups who are great at interacting with the audience (and putting hecklers in their place)... but that's not quite the same.

My daughter turned me on to these guys:

But we can't forget the best song parody-ist of my generation:

Ladies and gentlemen I give you Jet to Jet by Alcatrazz

Holy smokes, I'd forgotten about that trainwreck of a band.

Steel Panther have since claimed their spot... though Steel Panther is definitely tongue in cheek (and other places )

Amazing suggestions. My brother sings Steel Panther around the house frequently. The entire album. The line about Madonna is a favourite of his, especially when I'm eating.

"Improv Comedians". It's always worth a second thought. You type it into Youtube, and you get the results. You got to a Comedy Club, and they describe the act as "A master of Improv". I'd say it's honorable to its definition. Their show is prepared, and they're able to reer off track, and to "go with the flow" and think on his/her feet. (Whether that'll be in song, or not)

Alot of the time, even the crowd interaction is scripted. Not on the crowds behalf. But the Act leave only several answers, and are prepared for the outcome. Yet, there's those who come in with little material, pick up a guitar, and tell the audience to tell him what to sing about.

The latter, for me, is Improv. But there's most definitely a surge in "Improv" comedy.

Hey Papertwinproductions check out King Missile.

Hey, another King Missile fan! Though they weren't so much a comedy act as a band that occasionally used humor (a la Frank Zappa, another favorite of mine). I'm not so into straight-up novelty/comedy rock myself, but I understand the popularity of it. I'm at work so I can't search youtube, but a Zappa search will either yield funny songs, weird songs or just damn good guitar!

I know this might not be exactly what the thread's about, but it's musical, and Adam Sandler used to do stand up, so that's good enough for me. (Plus I had to really think, since all the people/bands I thought of straight away had already been posted).
