Some work very well! Buffy the Vampire Slayer became a hit TV show based on a lackluster movie. And The Fugitive was a smash hit movie based on a so-so TV show.

Well, I suppose the Dune Prophecy prequel isn't bad.
First 3 episodes were way better than the last 3

They made an Equilizer TV show with action star queen Latifah
What a strange choice of casting, but sure, maybe people underestimate her and that gives her an advantage.

I checked it out, but the second an action scene begins, it turns into a chaotic motion blur full of microedits, cannot tell wtf is even happening.
I didn't even make it through the first episode.

Okay so this question is topical, how is The Fall Guy? šŸ˜‚

The Fall Guy (TV) was like a cross between The Dukes of Hazzard and Rockford Files. It had the truck (like the car) jumping over things and the hot chick, but the stories, characters, editing was more like RF.

Now who wants to make a Rockford Files movie? That was my favorite premise of all those shows. A down-on-his-luck PI living in a trailer down by the beach who owed everyone in town money and repeatedly got his ass kicked. Perfect! lol. The best past was the intro where his answering machine picked up and the pissed off husband, creditor, or scorned woman left a message.

I loved the Rockford Files because it was exactly what was described - my dad and I watched it together :)

But here's my complaint, which is hardly news:
I'm sure there's someone out there with a good script and a similar premise, either because they came up with the same idea or also watched it as a kid. But rather than making the new project, studios want to re-make the old one so they can have "proven" IP. I get so damn tired of that.

Okay so John Hamm, Henry Cavill, or Hugh Jackman? šŸ¤”

My oddball pick would be Robert Downey Jr. I could see him mouthing off and getting his ass kicked, and I think his humor actually works, it's a bit dry and sarcastic like Rockford's. He can also look handsome and rough around the edges.

There are quite a few good TV to movie adaptations:

If ā€œLife Of Brianā€ counts ā€“ that's my favorite.
If ā€œThe Muppet Movieā€ counts ā€“ that's a close second.
And I like ā€œPennies From Heavenā€ a lot.
Does ā€œFire Walk With Meā€ count?

I have a soft spot forā€œCharlie's Angelesā€. I never watched the TV series so that
might skew my view.

Certainly Star Trek and TNG.

With a major caveat; ā€œMission: Impossibleā€. I hate, hate, hate what Koepp and
Towne did with Jim Phelps.

My favorite TV to movie might be ā€œThe Addams Familyā€.

Rik,

Was "Life of Brian" a TV series or movie? The producers were from their "Monty Python Flying Circus", but Circus was NOT a version of the movie, so I'm not sure if there was an adaptation. But I agree "Life of Brian" is one of the greatest comedy movies of all time.

Muppet Movie may qualify.
