DIY shoulder support...

I made this shoulder support last night for my camera. Its prewtty sweet and turned out better than i though. I got the instructions for here. it only cost me about 30 dollars.

In the top picture, on the left handle bar, you can see the bicylce gear shifter I will be using for a follow focus once i get all the parts.

not yet... I'm still undecided on what i want to use as weight. I don't want to hang something from the back. whatever i use, it will be firmly attached to the shoulder piece.

What if you poured a bit of concrete or similar heavy substance into the rear PVC for weight?

It's cool man. The DIY stuff some people come up with is nuts, super creative.

That's a great idea. I could even use lead pellets which are readily available here in Alaska.

I was planning on building one of these. Does it handle weight well? What if you were to put a monitor, follow focus, a large lens, etc. Do you think this rig is up to it?

All those things are only going to add up to a couple pounds. I'm positive it can handle it. PVC is extremely durable. Long lengths of it bends and bows but very short lengths like the ones you use to for this build have little bend in them.

Does the GripShift give you an analog rotation or does it have the click stops as it would when shifting a bike?

Put another way: Are the click positions on a GripShift a function of the shifter or the derailleur?

If you pull the grip shift apart you can pull the clicker out which is what I did.

Remote shutter

I was bored today so i decided to make my own remote switch and install it into the handle of my shoulder support. It turned out pretty awesome. The Black switch is auto-focus and the red button is shutter release

Right now it does nothing but I'm working on making it work as a follow focus.

Yes, sorry just re-read the first post and saw it's a work in progress!

I've just started using a £100 'seagull' rig I got from Keene (uk)

It's not bad so far and packs down easily and small but the handles have to do done up quite tightly to stop movement when in use - if I could add a diy follow focus some how that would be awesome.
