Creating Suspense?

Suspense implies danger. What's dangerous?

Does the character know he/she is in danger or not?

1. Character knows something may happen at any moment.
2. Audience knows, but character does not.

Watch films and see for yourself. This is not a smart-answer. With films it's all right there for you, like a recipe. Search for some classics and then rent them.

thanks, it is a object lesson in suspense..

hiding information is often the root of suspense.... for example, hiding information from the viewer as to "whats behind that door" is suspenseful, if you reveal to the viewer whats behind the door, but don't reveal it to the character thats about to turn the door knob, you can turn suspense into dread!

Well... obviously, Mr. Nitpicker. ;) What I'm getting at is about editing. There is no sound in editing. Cut for cut, suspense can be created via the right combination of shots. Indeed. Music/score=sound. Agreed.
