It's all about the art direction and the gorgeous 1940s art design. Some lovely FX work as well, such as the whole skinny Steve/muscular Steve effect, which is flawless.
And Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull does a dead-on impression of Werner Herzog -- I'm absolutely not kidding. Herzog fans will get a kick out of it.
Yet another 3D film that didn't need to be 3D. I wish Hollywood would end this obsession with adding 3D after the fact. At least the screening I saw was bright enough, as my big gripe with 3D is the theater's bulb usually isn't cranked up to compensate for wearing dark 3D glasses.
I have some reservations about the characters and writing, but it's certainly a fun Summer popcorn movie. I'd even see it again.
