Very much looking forward to this… Sam Mendes directing (and even more excitingly) Roger Deakins ASC BSC behind the camera. He spoke at a BSC event a couple of nights ago and it sounds like it's going to be all digital (which means ARRI Alexa), which should be very interesting - Deakins basically said that he doesn't see any reason for him to shoot film any more. Javier Bardem has apparently been offered a role - I can only hope he took it, because he would make a bloody excellent Bond villain.

Anyone else looking forward to this?

Im up on the news as well. I think this is going to be a landmark Bond movie even though it's still Craig.

Don't get me wrong, i've always liked Craig since before he was a mainstream name. But Bond he is not.

I'm not a fan of the "Bond" franchise. I was too busy kicking a ball to pretend to be a spy. Something I regret, I could have possibly taken to them. I put this down to those who portrayed "Bond" in my era being constantly compared the previous with an immediate defeatist attitude.

So, whenever they are televised, I'm never able to transport myself to the era that supposedly, was the pinnacle.

Yet, it does sound interesting.

Being young enough to grow up with Pierce Brosnan as the Bond I remember most, I find Daniel Craig highly preferable. I like the suave, slicked-back sex appeal of Sean Connery in the originals, but the general tone and style of the films themselves are too light-hearted and comedic for my tastes in an espionage/action movie. It seems to me like Daniel Craig is a fairly needed update to the Bond image. Pierce Brosnan maintained his 90's sex-symbol approach to the character well into the 2000's, with an abundance of cheesy one-liners, big hair, shiny suits, and stereotypical East European bad guys. It seems like Daniel Craig has a more muted, brute approach to the role, which is at least a bit more relevant to the action-movie audience today, even if it isn't the "same old classic Bond" that the series started with.

In short: I'm very excited for the next one.

Always looking forward to a Bond flick. Goldeneye, after all these years, is still one of my faves.

:weird:

I'm psyched about Bond 23. Always up for a good Bond film so add to that the director of one of my favourite movies of all time (American Beauty) and it's a pretty tasty prospect.

I've got a lot of other films to get excited about before then though.

I've never been crazy about Craig as Bond (although I think he's a good actor, and I enjoyed Casino Royale), so I can't say I really feel one way or the other about this.

I loved Craig's brutal physicality in CASINO ROYALE, which was something I couldn't see the other Bond actors doing. Connery was closest to that, IMO. If they can come up with a good story - better than QUANTUM OF SOLACE, I'll be in heaven.

Bond used to be funny, but the last two films were drained of all fun, much less humor. Now it's all so serious. That's not proper Bond IMO. I never went in for the camp, or the gadget proliferation that followed in Connery's wake, either, but it was better than this new "post-modern" Bond, or whatever you want to call it.

I can't blame Craig, since he doesn't write this stuff.
