Yeah, I can understand that. Mostly I just wanted to get first impressions, general feelings, to use as a guideline during my editing process. Maybe I'll post just that segment of the project when it's completed. It would be out of context, but you'd have the visual reference.

I really liked the slow build at the beginning of the dramatic trailer, but it didn't go anywhere, you know? I expected it to rise to either a fast-paced or inspiring finish, and while it *kind of* got there, I think it could have landed a little bit better considering all the footage it seems...

Yep. At the very least, their time and money investment probably makes them feel like it's worth taking a shot, even if they fail and even if they know it's not "Nolan caliber" work. It might be accepted, it might not, but if you don't try you don't win. So at what point is someone "justified"...

I don't know about NEVER letting people improv--I've always found that part of the fun of making a movie is the changes it goes through when the words come off the page and are actually expressed by people's bodies and voices, and in that transition you have to allow some room for flexibility...
