Cheers folks, After some experimentation it seems it really doesn't like low light, the accuracy goes right down.Under most circumstances it has now been fine.

    cinematography GH2 White balance issue?

Cheers for that, I did wonder if thats what it was. There is a window in the room but the test was done at night so no light was coming in.

    cinematography GH2 White balance issue?

I have recently picked up a 'known' 18% grey card in order to to help with my white balance and allow me to use my new lightmeter. However I have just been experimenting with it and the results are far from expected. I am in a room with one big incandescent chinese lantern as the light...

Macbook upgrade, what spec to go for?

Hi folks, I currently run a 2011 Macbook Pro 13 inch,500GB 5400rpm HDD,8GB Ram and 2.4ghz intel core 2 duo. I use FCP7 for editing and correction,Apple color for grading. My Macbook is worth around £650 on ebay and I am thinking of selling it on and putting in the difference for a new one I can...

    Is crowd sourcing for me?

I am currently finishing off a script for a short I would like to make that's purpose is actually an anti-smoking campaign. I am hoping that the short will be used as part of anti-smoking charity campaigns and thus will be helpful for altruistic reasons if not necessarily financially. Is this...

    cinematography Constant aperture or gain?

Luxi light meter ordered, I know it isn't as good as a dedicated light meter but all the reviews I have seen and tests I have read show that it does compare favourably with the much higher priced meters so it will be a decent learning tool if nothing else.

Using a S.A.D lamp for video work?

Cheers Jax, The idea of the lamps is to replicate day light during winter hours when daylight isn't available so in theory it should produce solid daylight for film, its better than the tiny manfrotto light I currently have that puts out 230lux!

    cinematography Constant aperture or gain?

Thanks Jax,very comprehensive, whilst I don't understand all of that I will now scurry off and read about this,do you know any books that will teach me these sort of things? Lighting is something I am desperate to learn about but its a rather overwhelming topic.

    cinematography Constant aperture or gain?

Thanks Jax,more for me to read up on,I'll try and find the best ISO settings on my GH2 and then light for correct exposure whilst using the the aperture to get the look I want as opposed to correcting for poor lighting.

Using a S.A.D lamp for video work?

I have spent this evening tidying things away in the garage at my family home,I came across a S.A.D light that has seen little use and was bought for my aunty and then forgotten. This is the model.... http://www.sad.co.uk/Litepod-Company-Diamond-3-SAD-Light-White-Light/334sdp.htm From what i...

    cinematography Constant aperture or gain?

Haha good answer Steve! I have actually had a look into lightmeters before but as my kit is still in its infancy it just hasn't been a priority.I have seen a kickstarter campaign for a light meter attachment for an Iphone that was reasonably priced,no idea how accurate it is though.

    cinematography Constant aperture or gain?

What do you folks prefer as a constant when shooting movies? Given that for the majority of circumstances you will be filming at 1/50th shutter speed, do you tend to keep the iso the same and adjust the aperture, or shoot at say f4 for as much as you can and adjust the iso to keep the exposure...
