archived-videos Check out my reel! Feedback welcome

Edit: Updated reel here-- http://vimeo.com/116123520 Hey everyone, So it's been a while since I've posted, but I thought I'd share my reel from the past year on the forum. (Some strong language) http://vimeo.com/108408415 I'll be upgrading my equipment (probably adding a gimbal stabilizer...

    The Big Guys

Hey guys, I watched a documentary called Official Rejection a few times this summer (wanted to show it to others, so I re-watched with them ) and it made me wonder just how many people actually get into the "big" fests. I could probably peruse indietalk but thought that this topic might...

    Flicker on export to .mpg

RESOLVED. Exported in H264 instead. I already submitted the flicker copy to a film festival; hope it doesn't hurt my chances of getting in (it was a WAB extended deadline anyway though, so from what I've heard the chances of getting in late are pretty slim anyway).

    Flicker on export to .mpg

I'm getting an occasional white flicker when I export to 24p 1080p .mpeg using Premiere Elements. Any idea what causes this problem or how to fix it?

    sound Music Rights Help

Initially posted this in a comment, but thought it might deserve its own thread: How long should I wait before following up with someone from the record company? I spoke with him on the phone regarding the master license and sent him an email a week ago, but have yet to hear back from him. I...

    Mid-tier festivals?

Anyone know any good mid/low-tier festivals to submit to? Not saying the film is terrible, but I want to submit my first short film to a festival and I know the likelihood of getting into a big fest is probably slim given the production value, limited pool of actors, and lack of experience all...

    sound Clearance.com ?

Anyone ever use Evan M. Greenspan clearance.com for music rights? I was thinking of going with the cheaper option of buying the label's contact information to purchase music rights for my short.

    Graphic Novels

If you like Watchmen, check out V for Vendetta. Hellboy is also great, but maybe not as high up on the intellectual scale as Alan Moore's work. Still amazing, though, in my opinion.

    NTG-2 and what recorder?

The audio guys' advice above is probably worth more than mine, but I used the DR-40mkii paired with the NTG-2 for my short and got some great sound. Look for deals on eBay and Amazon-- where I bought all of my equipment (except for a painter's pole from home depot that I used as a boom with an...

    A late hello!

Hey, everyone. So I've been a member on indietalk since this past summer but have never really properly introduced myself. I'm currently a freshman undergrad studying English/Journalism with a minor in Computer Science at Lehigh Univeristy. I started out planning to combine computer engineering...

That was exactly the source of the confusion. I should have better instructed the op and double-checked to make sure he was actually recording the audio. Now I know for next time.

You're right; it shouldn't have happened. While some of the blame is obviously put on me, the director, I really don't know why the recordist didn't realize the sound wasn't being recorded and was only in standby mode with the red light flashing and not solid (Tascam dr-100mkII). Then again the...

    lighting DSLR lighting settings?

Nikon D3200 with stock lens; .mov files. I didn't have proper lighting equipment at all, so I messed with the ISO and shutter speed settings quite a bit. Example of low light: interior of car with no light in the backseat. Also, sometimes when the shutter speed was at 1/50 (24 fps) with an...

    lighting DSLR lighting settings?

When shooting on DSLR in low light, is it best to leave the ISO so that the image is dark on camera and then brighten it in post production or raise the ISO so that the video image is brighter on the camera display? I've finished shooting my first short film but am curious about the proper...

Wow, thanks for the great reply, Alcove Audio. I did record the wild lines a few times, but I believe they are all about the same tempo. The project is my first short film-- shot in under a week and definitely low budget, but I really appreciate the advice. I'll keep it in mind for my future...
