camera-dept What is camera do I use for a short

Hello guys.
Now I am considering making a short and I am wondering what is the best camera to use.

I own a Nikon D3300 dslr camera but I feel it is not qualified enough as I have also heard film festivals only consider films shot in 4k. I don't know how true it is.

I need your guidance on picking the right camera for my first short film.

I'm not a camera guy, but one piece of advice I can give you. A camera you have is better than any camera you don't have.

Focus on telling the story.

If I were you, I'd shoot with your Nikon and focus the rest of your efforts into getting your audio right before you worry further on the camera.

Note: I've used plenty of cameras in my shoots. From Phones, Gopros, C300, and Reds. From a camera perspective, I'd take a great operator with a phone than a crappy operator with the best camera.

Netflix only considers movies shot in 4K. Film festivals have difrent rulles.... One of the chepest 4K camera's are the GH4 and G7. Investing in good sound and light might give a better movie then a expansive camera

I think that you should focus on a deadline for your first short instead of a film festival.
Get this shit out of the way as fast as possible and then you will have experience to make your own decisions on what to do next!

If you could come back here and post a finished film within the next two weeks you'll have done yourself a great service.

Don't buy another camera. Use the connections you have to find a
DP with a camera. You need to direct, not shoot.

What you heard about festivals is not true.

I agree with sfoster. Based on your other post what you need to do is
make two or three short films. You do not need to consider festivals at
this time. You need to make a short film.

Since you already own a camera use that. I also agree with Feutus Lapdance,
if you need to buy equipment, buy good audio equipment. That Nikon is fine
for a short film.

If it is your very first film then it won't be acepted by film festivals, it won't be good enough. Use any camera that can do 1080p and develop your skills, you can return to the same script later and remake it on 4k when you are skilled.
